Setting Up Your Referral Program
We've made the setup and launch of your referral program extremely easy! After you complete the signup process and create your account, you’ll be immediately brought to the setup flow for your first referral program.
Here’s a breakdown of the key settings you’ll need to configure to get your referral program up and running, along with a step-by-step guide.
Discounts (only applicable if discount code is selected to track referrals)
Step-by-Step Guide:
Note: This article provides a detailed setup guide, but in-app tooltips are also there to help you throughout each step.
1. General Settings
In this section, you'll configure the basic details of your referral program. These include:
Program Type: Choose between a general program or a post-purchase program. Both program types allow you to invite affiliates using a signup form link, however, post-purchase automatically invites your customers to your program after making a purchase from your store.
Note: When launching a Post Purchase program, you must add the Kickbooster affiliate signup form to your checkout in order to trigger the post-purchase invitation. Learn more.
Program Name: Name your program so your affiliates can identify your brand and also give it an internal name so you can easily find it on your dashboard.
Links Preview: We give you a sneak peek of what your signup form and affiliate links will look like. By default, we use the 'Name' of your program for your signup form and give you the ability to edit it here.
Affiliate Review: Choose if you'd like to review affiliates that apply to your program before letting them participate or if you'd rather not review and accept all affiliates to your program.
2. Commissions
Next, define the commission structure for your referral program. This includes:
Reward Type: Choose if you want to offer your affiliates cash back or store credit as their reward.
Commission Type: Choose if you want your affiliates to receive a % of the referred sale or a fixed $ amount per referred order.
Commission Rate: Choose the percentage or dollar amount rate you want your affiliates to receive for their referrals.
Note: Once your program has launched, you're unable to change the program's reward and commission type. If you want to launch a program with a different reward or commission type, a new program will need to be created.
Your commission rate can be changed at anytime, keeping in mind that existing affiliates will always remain at the highest rate offered. Learn more.
3. Attributions
The Attribution settings enable you to customize how Kickbooster tracks your affiliate's referrals. This includes:
Referral Link Only or Link and Discount Code: Choose from providing affiliates a referral link only or a referral link along with a unique discount code that they can share when promoting your store. This is how Kickbooster will track their referrals.
Cookie duration: This setting allows you to choose the length of time an affiliate has after their referral link is clicked to earn a commission.
Review Period: This determines how many days after a referred purchase do you want your affiliates' commissions to be considered valid.
Tip: Merchants will often align their review period with their return policy.
How to handle Self Referrals: This is simply asking if you want to allow affiliates to use their own link or discount code to make a purchase and receive a discount and commissions from their own order.
4. Discounts
Note: This step will only be visible if you chose to track referrals through a Discount code. If you chose to track through Link Only, you'll go straight to the next step.
The Discount Settings page allows you to configure and manage the discount offers that your affiliates will be able to offer to their audience. Here, you can set:
Discount Type: Choose if you want your affiliate's discount offering to be a percentage, fixed dollar amount, or free shipping.
Discount Value: If Percentage or Fixed amount is selected, enter the value of the discount.
Min. Purchase Amount: If you want to limit the usage of a discount to a minimum purchase amount, this is where you'll want to enter that $ amount.
I.e. 10% off of a min. purchase amount of $30
Discount Code Prefix (optional): If you'd like all your affiliate codes to have something in the beginning, perhaps to easily identify the use of your affiliate codes in orders, you can enter a prefix code here.
I.e. prefix: SHOP10 , affiliate code: SHOP10-[affiliate's unique code]
5. Design
In this step, customize the look and feel of your referral program to match your brand. This includes:
Company Logo Upload: This will be used for your affiliate signup form and discount popup pages if they are enabled.
Tip: Avoid using a white logo as the background for your signup form and pop-ups are white.
Page Header: Give your signup form a title.
Description: Default text is there for you, but this is where you'll want to add a brief description about your referral program.
Note: Your signup page will already include reward being offered and discount details (if applicable). This doesn't need to be added here. There will also be a link to your store so they can learn more about all your products if needed.
Primary Color: Choose your brand's primary color so your signup page and pop-ups match your branding.
Media Kit (optional): Providing a link to your media kit would allow affiliates to easily access assets to include in their promotional efforts.
Preview: Once you've finished with your settings, you can preview your changes:
6. Launch
Once you’ve configured all the settings, you’re ready to launch your referral program!
Preview Your Program: Take a final look at the settings you've configured and ensure everything looks good.
Activate the Program: Hit the “Launch My Program” button to make your referral program live. You will then be given the link to your program signup page and start inviting people to join your program!
Post-Launch Program Settings
Once you've launched your program, Kickbooster offers additional settings and tools to help you manage and optimize your program. In 'General', you will see the following options:
Prevent new signups: You'll want to enable this if you would like to put a pause in accepting new affiliates to the program. All existing affiliates will stay active when this is enabled.
Request to add your program to our Marketplace: Request to get access to thousands of possible affiliates through the Kickbooster Affiliate Network.
Note: Marketplace requests are reviewed within 1-3 days.
Extra redirect params: This feature allows you to additional custom UTM tracking parameters to your affiliate links. Learn more.
