Why do you need a share code?
When applying to become a nanny in the UK, you must prove that you have the right to work in the country. One way to do that is by using a share code.
What is a share code?
A share code is a unique reference number that lets employers verify that you have the right to work in the UK. They're a secure and convenient way to validate your right to work without compromising your personal information.
How to access your share code:
To find your share code, visit the official UK government website https://www.gov.uk/prove-right-to-work.
On the "Prove your right to work" page, you'll find instructions on how to generate a share code. You'll be asked to give specific personal details e.g. your name, date of birth, and immigration status.
During the generation process, you may be required to upload some documents to verify your identity and immigration status e.g. a valid passport or biometric residence permit
Once you've given all the necessary information to validate your identity and immigration status, the website will generate a unique share code for you. Make sure to keep a record of it for future use. You can then enter your share code into our right to work form so that we can verify your right to work in the UK.
Your share code expires after 30 days
If this happens, you'll need to generate a new share code using the steps above.
What to do if you have an ongoing visa application
Some of our applicants might not have a valid share code because they have:
an ongoing application or appeal for leave to remain in the UK
an application for no time limit to be added to a new passport by someone who already has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK
an application for transferring a current visa into a new passport / Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
an application for a replacement BRP
a Certificate of Application (COA) issued to a family member of an EEA national stating that the holder is allowed to work. The COA must be less than 6 months old.
an Application Registration Card (ARC) for an asylum seeker stating that the holder is allowed to work
or unable to produce valid BRP due to non-delivery or collection
or unable to use the Digital Right to Work service due to technical error
