Does making a claim affect my premium?

Claims can sometimes affect your premium at renewal, depending on your policy and claim history. We'll always explain any changes before your policy renews.

Your premium won't change part-way through your current policy year just because you've made a claim — any adjustment only ever happens at renewal, and we'll give you advance notice so there are no surprises.

A few things typically go into that renewal calculation, not just claims:

  • Your claim history – how many claims you've made and their value over the policy period

  • Your pet's age – premiums generally rise a little as pets get older and statistically need more care

  • Wider vet cost trends – like most insurers, we review pricing periodically to reflect the rising cost of veterinary treatment across the industry

Making a claim doesn't automatically mean a price increase — it's one factor among several, and plenty of customers who've claimed see little or no change. If your premium does change at renewal, we'll always explain why before it takes effect, and you're welcome to get in touch if you'd like more detail on your specific renewal.
