When do I need to pay an excess?

Your excess is a fixed amount you contribute towards the cost of a claim — here's when it applies.

When is my excess taken?

Your excess is deducted from your claim settlement whenever you make a claim, rather than being a separate payment you make upfront. We take your fixed excess amount off the total claim cost first, before applying any co-payment.

How often do I pay it?

You only pay your excess once per medical condition, per policy year — even if your pet needs several visits or ongoing treatment for that same condition within the same year.

If the same medical condition continues into a new policy year, you'll need to pay the excess again for that year.

What if my pet has a bilateral condition?

Conditions affecting a paired body part (like both eyes, hips or knees) are treated as one medical condition. So if it later affects the other side too, within the same policy year, you won't pay the excess again for that — though co-payment would still apply as normal.

What if I don't make a claim?

If you don't make a claim, you won't pay an excess at all — it only applies when a claim is actually made.
