This guide covers reader installation on Fagor and Domus Washers.
These reader uses Serial communication over an RS-485 interface. Some common model numbers include FWH-40-TP2, HPW-0820, DLU-40 and more.
Required Parts
Card Reader Kit
Card Reader Wiring Harness
12V External Power Supply
Installation Summary
"Continental" Card Reader board type must be used
Direct plug-in Card Reader wiring harness (for Serial communication connection)
Card Reader wire splicing required for reader power
Machine Side settings: Set Machine ID to 1 and Enable COMMS Kit setting
Installation Steps
Step 0: Number the machines in the location
Before proceeding, it is recommended that you assign numbers and labels to each machines in the laundry room/building.
Step 1: Turn Machine Power OFF
It is always recommended to power the machine off before install the card readers.
Step 2: Remove Coin Drop (Card Only Installs)
Removing the Coin Drop is only necessary for Card Only installs.
If you are installing the reader in a Hybrid Coin+Card configuration, the Coin Drop need to remain installed.
Step 3: Number the reader using the DIP switches
In order to configure a Card Reader to report as a specific Washer or Dryer number, you need to set the reader's DIP Switches to specific positions. These DIP Switches ONLY affect what the reader will display as for it's machine type (Washer/Dryer) and it's machine number:
Review our: Reader DIP Switch settings article for details on how to set the Card Reader's Machine Type, and Reader Number.
You need to do this BEFORE mounting the Card Readers onto the machines, as accessing the back of the card reader is required.
Step 4: Card Reader Serial Connection
Connect the 3-pin connector from the Card Reader harness to the header labeled CN13 on the Fagor control board:
Step 5: Card Reader Power Connection
Use the provided external power supply to provide power to the card reader.
Plug DC side of the power supply into the Card Reader's harness.
You can connect the AC (120Vac) side of the power supply, either to an available wall outlet, or splice the power supply directly to the machine, using an appropriate high-voltage connection inside the machine.
When connecting to the machine directly, cut the AC prong off the AC side of the 12V power supply and safely connect to 110Vac or 220Vac on the machine (we recommend consulting the manufacturer, or an electrician, to confirm this type of connection).
DISCLAIMER: This requires a high voltage connection that should be done by a qualified professional. We are NOT responsible for any damages or injuries resulting from this connection.
We are not advising on how or where to connect the AC/DC power supply. Below are photos our customers have sent us, just showing possible high-voltage connection points that have been used:
Step 6: Configuring Machine Side Settings
Set Machine ID to "1" (click to expand)
Set Machine ID to "1" (click to expand)
Power ON the machine so you can access the machine's programming menus.
You'll need to set the machine ID to "1" in order to enable Serial communication with the Card Reader
Note: This step of setting the ID to 1 should NOT be confused with setting the washer number of the machines.
In order to get these machines to communicate with the Card Readers, you need to set all Washer ID's to 1 (regardless of what number the washer is in your location)
Step 7: Mounting the Card Reader
If you ordered Card-Only reader kits, follow this general guide.
If you ordered Hybrid (Coin + Card) reader kits, follow this general guide.
Step 8: Activate the Card Reader
Proceed to secure the reader to the machine and then Activate the Card Reader using the Activation Card for this specific location:
Note: you MUST use the Activation Card for THIS SPECIFIC LOCATION,
or else the card reader will not appear on the LaundroPortal for this location.
This will activate the reader and programs the reader with the location's specific Support and Location IDs.
The Card Reader will then automatically connect to VAC01's wireless network and once connected, will be visible on the LaundroPortal where you can configure it's vend prices.
Setting Vend Pricing
Set vend prices via the LaundroPortal.
The Card Reader will update the machine's display with the new prices.
Note: The washer control requires that all prices MUST be in multiples of $0.25.
So if you set a cycle option price to $5.49, the machine will not handle this price correctly since it's not a multiple of $0.25
Troubleshooting
Below are problems commonly encountered during the installation of readers on these machines specifically.
For more general Card Reader troubleshooting, see the Card Reader Troubleshoot section of our Help Center.
Issue | Explanation and resolution |
LaundroPortal displays a "Machine/Serial Communication" error | This error indicates that the Card Reader is unable to communicate with the machine's control board. This can only be caused by 1 of 3 things:
If you have a machine, of the same model, that's working correctly with it's Card Reader, try doing a reader swap test to see if the issue is the Card Reader itself.
In most cases, this likely indicates that the firmware running on the Fagor control board needs to be updated to the latest firmware to be able to communicate with the card reader.
If you are having intermittent Machine/Serial Communication errors, it is likely the Fagor firmware needs to be updated.
Also contact the Laundroworks support team to ensure the Card Reader's firmware is running the latest available firmware version. |
Pricing is out of sync | Pricing of the machines is controlled by the Card Reader, however Fagor washers will only display the correct vend price, if the vend price is a multiple of $0.25.
Adjust the Card Reader's price to a multiple of $0.25 to see if that correct the out of sync pricing issue. |
