Here's how it works:
Participant journey
Participant completes registration
A unique tracking link is generated for the participant post registration
Participant shares unique link with friends, family and colleagues
Friend/family/colleague clicks unique link and completes their registration
Original participant receives automated email when milestone has been achieved. (They are not paid or refunded at this point)
A few days after they have completed the event (Or whenever the reward is scheduled to send) the participant is refunded.
π‘ Note: Rewards are processed as refunds back to the original payment method through Stripe, maintaining the same tax treatment as the original transaction.
Creating your referral programs
Referral programs are available in the "Growth & Marketing" area of your event dashboard.
When setting up your referral program you will be asked to choose one of two reward structures:
Milestone rewards: Participants earn rewards when they hit referral thresholds
E.g. Invite 3 friends β $10 refund, Invite 5 friends β $20 refund
βRolling rewards: Participants earn rewards for every successful referral
E.g. Every friend invited β $10 back (up to original registration cost)
π‘ Note: Only the participant who booked the tickets will be rewarded.
Event eligibility
You can configure your reward for:
All event dates - Checkmark the top box
Or specific event dates - Checkmark the box next to the specific events
π‘ Note: You can't yet set up a referrals program for a specific ticket.
Setting up reward structures
You can configure rewards for both referrers (people doing the inviting) and referees (friends being invited). You can't yet set up cross-event referral programs.
Setting up milestone rewards for the referrer
For milestone-based programs you can:
Define reward tiers: Set how many referrals trigger each reward level
Set reward amounts: Choose refund amounts for each milestone
You can add more reward tiers by clicking "Add milestone" and setting the referral count and reward amount. (Rewards are capped at the original registration cost)
Setting up rolling rewards for the referrer
For rolling reward programs you can:
Set per-referral amount: Choose how much participants earn per successful invite
Setting up rewards for the referree
For rewarding the referree you can:
Define referee discounts: Set percentage or an amount that the referree (friends being invited) can be discounted on their entry.
Choose processing dates
Specify when rewards are paid out to the referrer. Rewards are processed as refunds back to the original payment method through Stripe, maintaining the same tax treatment as the original transaction.
π‘ Tip: We recommend setting up the reward to be given to participants after the event day to stop participants gaming the system. E.g. participant gets rewarded then cancels their entry.
Automated email notifications
The system automatically sends several types of emails:
Milestone achievement emails: Sent immediately when referral thresholds are met
Reward processing emails: Sent when refunds are actually processed
π‘ Note: All referral emails are sent automatically. You can customize the content but can't disable the core milestone notifications.
Tracking and reporting
We currently don't have tracking and reporting set up in the dashboard. This is something we are planning to implement later this year.
Common questions
When are rewards processed?
When are rewards processed?
Rewards are processed on the date you set to refund participants. We recommend setting this to after the event date to prevent abuse from cancellations
What happens if someone cancels after using a referral link?
What happens if someone cancels after using a referral link?
The system automatically marks canceled registrations as ineligible, so they won't count toward milestone achievements.
