A more advanced application for working with conversation templates is evaluating on custom skills. This gives you the opportunity to add some generic skills to a conversation round where all participants are assessed in the same way. Here are the most important things to keep in mind.

Setting up the section

You always start by creating a new section in the review template. Within this section you can specify various settings that help with a good evaluation of custom skills. Think of:

  • Name and description: Make it clear in the name and description that this is a review on custom skills and give an instruction on how to answer the questions.

  • 90/180/360° Evaluation: Determine who should answer the questions about evaluating the custom skills. Do you want the employee to assess himself, to collect feedback from direct colleagues, or to be assessed by a manager? Turn on the buttons for personal/peer/coach review as you wish.

  • Reporting (KPI): You cannot use a Learned KPI when evaluating custom skills.

  • Rating scale: When measuring custom skills, it is not possible to set a rating scale in the conversation template. The rating scale depends on the number of levels available per skill.

Custom skills in the conversation template

When adding custom skills, a popup opens with a search bar. By typing in this search bar, all activated skill sets in your account will be available. By working with all our skills, you can choose from over 100,000 skills. You look up and add all the different skills you want to assess.

A standard question is formulated for each skill:

  • How did you perform on <name skill>?

You will then see the rating scale consisting of the number of levels of the skill set. With Learned, this is a 5-point novice-expert scale by default.

You also have the option to enable the slider button with 'Not applicable'. This ensures that the person completing the questionnaire has the option to skip questions. The skipped questions are not included in the final scores. Finally, you still have the option to make the comments field for the questions mandatory. If this slider button is activated, employees cannot submit the review form until all mandatory fields have been completed.

Custom skills in your skill set

When adding custom skills to your conversation template, you can choose from all skills in the activated skill sets of your account. It is therefore not necessary that all skills are already in your own skill set at that moment. The skills you add to your conversation template are then also placed in your organisation's skill set.
