Written by Diago

Some ideas are meant to be turned around, zoomed into, and dropped straight into a scene. 3D Generation brings a whole new dimension to Leonardo.Ai — turn an image into a ready-to-use 3D model in minutes. No modelling software. No years of technical training. Just your image, and a click.

Whether you're prototyping game assets, mocking up products, or bringing a character off the page, 3D Generation gives you a downloadable model you can take straight into your existing 3D workflow.

How to use 3D Generation

  1. Open the 3D creation tool from the home page.

For the best results, the 3D generation model needs to view your character from different angles. You can use the 3D Reference View Creator blueprint, which you can access directly from the prompt bar:

Select your character image and click Generate:

  2. Once the Blueprint generation finishes, add your reference views (up to five) using the Image Reference button. A clean, front-facing subject on a simple background gives the best mesh.

  3. Adjust your settings. Choose your Mesh Type, Mesh Quality, and Material.

  4. Hit Generate. You'll see the exact token cost on the button before you commit — 3D generations start at 400 tokens.

  5. Preview and download. Your model appears in the built-in 3D viewer — spin it around, check the details, then download the .glb file to use in Blender, Unity, or any tool that reads .glb files.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does 3D Generation work?

3D Generation is powered by Rodin V2 (by Hyper3D), the first 3D model on the platform. Give it an image — Leonardo generates a textured 3D mesh you can preview right in the platform's 3D viewer and download for use anywhere.

How much does 3D Generation cost?

3D generations start at 400 tokens, and the cost varies with your quality settings. You'll see the exact cost on the Generate button before you commit.

Is 3D Generation available to free users?

A single 3D generation costs more than the free daily token allowance, so a paid plan is needed in practice.

What file format do I get?

Models download as .glb files, which work in Blender, Unity, Unreal, and most modern 3D tools.

Is 3D Generation available on mobile?

No — 3D Generation is not currently availlable on our mobile apps.

Can I use 3D Generation through the API?

Yes — Please check our official 3D API Guide: link

How do I get the best results?

Start with a great input image — a clean, well-lit, front-facing subject beats a busy scene every time. For small details like hands, choose higher polygon density. link

Where do my 3D models appear?

In your Library alongside your other generations, with a preview image.
