Seeing an error message from Strava and your rides aren’t appearing on Love to Ride? Reconnecting your account should get things moving again. 🚲

We’ve identified an issue affecting some Strava connections where Love to Ride hasn’t been given permission to access your activity data.

You may see a message like:

There was an error connecting to Strava! Please try connecting again.

How to fix it

  1. Log in to Love to Ride and go to ⚙️ Settings > Phone apps | Strava sync.
You can also go straight to your Strava sync settings.

  2. Click Disconnect from Strava.

  3. Click Connect to Strava to reconnect your account.

  4. Strava will ask which information you’re happy to share with Love to Ride. Make sure “View data about your activities” is ticked.

  5. Click Authorise.

That’s it! 🎉 Your Strava rides should start syncing with Love to Ride again. Please allow up to 24 hours for rides to appear.

Which Strava permissions should I choose?

When reconnecting, you may see several options:

  • View data about your public profile (required)

Strava requires this to connect your account.

  • View data about your activities ✅ Make sure this is selected

This lets Love to Ride sync activities that you have made visible to Everyone or Followers on Strava. Without this permission, we can’t sync your rides. Strava Help Center

  • View data about your private activities

This is optional. Select it if you also want Love to Ride to sync activities set to Only You on Strava. Strava says this permission also includes access to hidden portions of activity maps. Strava Help Center

The important one for normal ride syncing is “View data about your activities.”

Why has this happened?

Strava lets you choose exactly which permissions you give connected services. We found that, in some circumstances, it was possible to connect Love to Ride without granting us access to your normal activities. The connection appeared to be successful, but there was no activity permission for us to use when we tried to sync your rides.

We’ve improved our Strava connection to make this clearer and to spot missing activity permissions earlier.

You may also be asked to approve Love to Ride again even if you’ve connected Strava before. This is expected because the permissions requested by the connection have changed.

Still not working?

If you’ve reconnected Strava, “View data about your activities” is selected, and your rides still haven’t appeared after 24 hours, contact support@lovetoride.net and we’ll take a look.
