Connecting to a Windows VPS from macOS is straightforward using Microsoft’s official client. This guide shows how to set up Remote Desktop access using the Windows App for macOS.

Install the Windows App on macOS

Download and install Windows App from the Mac App Store.
Once installed, open the app to start configuring your connection.

Add your Windows VPS

Step 1 – Open the add menu

In the Windows App, click the plus (+) icon in the top bar and select Add PC.

Step 2 – Enter the VPS address

In the PC name field, enter the public IP address of your Windows VPS.
If your VPS uses a custom RDP port, append it using this format:

IP_ADDRESS:PORT

Step 3 – Configure credentials

For a quick setup, leave Credentials set to Ask when required.
You will be prompted for the username and password when you connect.

If you want to fully configure access in advance, click Credentials and select Add Credentials.

Enter the Windows username and password for your VPS and save them.

Step 4 – Save the PC

Leave the other settings at their default values unless you need custom display or device options.

Click Add to save the VPS.

Connect to the Windows VPS

Your VPS now appears under Saved PCs.
Click the VPS card to start the connection.

If prompted, enter your Windows username and password.
After authentication, the remote desktop session opens and you have full control of your Windows VPS.

The connection stays saved, so future access only requires a single click.
