If you see an Account locked error when connecting to your Windows VPS through RDP, it usually means the Administrator account has reached the maximum number of failed login attempts. You can unlock it directly from the VPS console.
IMPORTANT: First, make sure you have selected your desired Windows template during the deployment process (and not another template like Ubuntu or Debian):
Unlock the Administrator account
To resolve the issue, access the VPS through the console and update the user status. The steps below walk you through the process.
Step 1 – Log in to the LumaDock client area
Open your account dashboard and go to the list of your services.
Step 2 – Open your VPS management page
Click the Manage button next to your Windows VPS.
Step 3 – Access the console
Use the Console option to open a direct session into your VPS.
Step 4 – Sign in inside the console
Enter your Administrator credentials to access the Windows environment.
Step 5 – Open Computer Management
Click the Start menu, type Computer Management, and open the application.
Step 6 – Navigate to Local Users and Groups
Open Local Users and Groups, then select Users. Locate the Administrator account.
Step 7 – Open the account properties
Right-click the Administrator user and select Properties.
Step 8 – Unlock the account
Uncheck the option that says Account is locked out. This restores normal login behaviour for RDP.
Step 9 – Save changes
Click Apply, then OK to confirm.
Prevent future lockouts
A common cause of account lockouts is repeated login attempts from unknown IP addresses. To avoid this, restrict RDP access to your personal IP in the LumaDock firewall. This reduces unwanted login attempts and improves overall server security.
