How should I be holding my phone?

For truly immersive experiences, we recommend:

  1. Holding the phone between 5-10cm from your face, with the torch facing towards your closed eyes. This is just a guide, and it can be difficult to gauge distances when your eyes are closed, so don’t worry about being exact. Just remember you can always move the phone closer if you want to increase the intensity of the experience and further away to decrease it.

  2. Positioning the phone centrally between your eyes (i.e. so both eyes are receiving an equal amount of light from the torch). In doing so, the torch should naturally align with your nose.

  3. Find a position that you can comfortably hold for the duration of the experience. If you’re holding the phone instead of resting it on a surface, the key is to ensure that your elbow is supported (e.g. by a chair, or desk, or by another part of your body) so that your shoulder doesn’t begin to ache during the experience. See below for a list of our recommended positions.

  4. Experiment with different positions. Sometimes you need to try out a few positions to find the ones that really work for you - don’t be afraid to experiment. It might also be worth considering purchasing a phone holding device to explore more ways of using Lumenate hands-free.
