How can Lumenate help me to explore, relax and sleep better?

There are several neurological aspects of Flicker Light Stimulation (FLS) and neural entrainment that we consider and leverage when crafting our experiences.

Lumenate Explore sessions are designed to help you explore thoughts and emotions by 4 primary mechanisms:

  1. Theorised reduction in Default Mode Network activity and Peak Alpha. Often referred to as the “brain’s conductor”, in altered states a reduction in this activity is often correlated with new, novel communication pathways with the brain and a reduction in brain chatter. Combined, these help to explore thoughts and emotions more clearly, and from new perspectives.

  2. Increased emotionality. FLS has been shown to be a promising method to increase the emotional response to an experience, allowing you to connect more deeply with the carefully crafted journeys that our Lumenate Explore sessions take you on.
Increased signal diversity. This is a measure of the diversity of signals that exist in the brain at any given moment. Often referred to as a ‘higher state of consciousness’, an increase in signal diversity is commonly associated with rich and unusual perceptive and cognitive phenomena experience.

  3. Theorised increased functional connectivity. This is effectively a measure of the extent to which different areas of the brain are communicating with each other. Under FLS we tend to see an increase in this connectivity and observe parts of the brain communicate with other parts in ways that they might not usually do, helping to enable these different perspectives and modes of thinking.

Lumenate Relax sessions are designed to help you relax and de-stress by 2 primary mechanisms:

    1. On-demand visual experiences. The visual and hallucination-like phenomena produced by FLS create immersive experiences that ground you in the present moment.

    2. Theorised reduction in Default Mode Network activity and Peak Alpha. This is a foundational aspect that sits across all Lumenate experiences and, in the case of Relax sessions, helps to reduce brain chatter making it easier to escape those ruminative thoughts and relax in the present moment.

Lumenate Sleep sessions are designed to help you sleep better by 2 primary mechanisms:

    1. Neurally guiding the brain to the early stages of sleep onset. These sessions focus on lower frequencies, typically around the 3 Hz range. These correspond to the frequency band of Delta waves, which are commonly associated with deep sleep.

    2. Theorised reduction in Default Mode Network activity and Peak Alpha. In the case of sleep sessions, this helps to reduce brain chatter and minimise focus on any worries that might otherwise inhibit your ability to drift of to sleep.
