Lumion Assist is your school's built-in AI assistant. It answers questions, looks up information, summarizes daily activity, and drafts communications — all from a simple chat drawer inside Lumion. It comes named Mia by default, and you can rename it to match your brand. It works in both the School Dashboard (for staff) and the Student Portal (for students).
Who: All staff and students · Where: The Ask Mia Icon (top navigation bar)
Opening the assistant
Click the Ask Mia icon in the top navigation bar and a chat drawer slides open on the right. You can keep it open while you move between pages — your conversation stays in place. When it opens you'll see a personalized greeting and a set of quick action buttons; click one or type your own question. Close it with the X or the Escape key — your conversation saves automatically, and if you return within 24 hours you can Continue conversation where you left off. View past conversations with the clock icon in the drawer header.
What staff can do
When a conversation starts, the assistant shows four quick actions with live counts: New Leads, Applications, Recent Payments, and Enrollment Changes — each summarizes today's activity for that area.
You can also ask it to look things up ("Find the contact info for Sarah Johnson," "Show me David Lee's enrollment status," "What's our refund policy?") and to draft emails. When it drafts an email it shows a preview with recipient, subject, and body, lets you edit, and requires you to click Confirm before anything sends. Nothing is ever sent without your approval, and unconfirmed actions expire after 10 minutes. After each answer it offers clickable follow-up suggestions.
What students can do
In the Student Portal, students get quick actions tailored to them — What's my payment schedule?, When is my next class?, How do I update my payment method?, and Talk to my school — plus free-form questions about your policies, programs, and procedures. Students can only access their own data; the assistant never shares one student's information with another.
Setting up your assistant
Rename it: go to Settings › AI › Assistant Settings, enter a name in AI Assistant Name (2–30 characters; letters, numbers, spaces), and click Save Changes. The name appears in the chat header, greeting, message bubbles, and input placeholder.
How it works
Each conversation remembers its full context, is stored securely and scoped to the individual user, stays accessible for 90 days, and auto-closes after 30 minutes of inactivity. Before any real action (like sending an email) the assistant shows what it will do, waits for Confirm, and only then proceeds. When drafting a text it shows a character counter — green under 140, yellow 140–159, red over 160 (may split into multiple messages).
Tips
Be specific — "Show me leads from this week who haven't been contacted" beats "Show me leads."
Use the follow-up suggestion chips to dive deeper without retyping.
Keep your knowledge base fresh — re-scrape after major website updates.
Encourage students to use it for common questions to free up staff.
Review drafts before sending so the tone matches your school's voice.
FAQ
Can it access student records? Staff can look up any contact consistent with their permissions; students see only their own data.
Is my data secure? Conversations are encrypted, scoped to each user, and deleted after 90 days. Data is never shared between students or institutions.
Can I undo a sent email? No — that's why it always previews and requires confirmation before sending.
Does it work on mobile? Yes — the drawer is responsive on tablets and phones.
