Key Vocabulary 📚
We’ve added a new Key Vocabulary section to the Instructions tab to help teachers build understanding before students begin working. For each assignment, Lava will now automatically generate 4 vocabulary flip cards featuring key terms, clear definitions, and real-world examples to support concept introduction and discussion. Teachers can use these cards to spark conversation, encourage students to contribute their own examples, and establish shared understanding of key ideas before starting the assignment.
Student Practice and Progress📊
This update brings together guided practice, teacher recommendations, and clearer progress visibility in one streamlined flow. When students tap Start, Magma automatically surfaces the skills they’ve struggled with in regular assignments, ensuring practice is targeted and meaningful. Students can also explore domains and standards, while Magma selects the specific skills to serve within each area. Progress is now visualized through a domain-level pie chart that reflects all student work (assignments + practice), giving a complete picture of mastery. In addition, teachers can recommend specific skills that appear at the top of the student experience for more targeted support.
Mobile Phone Support for Students 📞
Students can now complete their assignments directly from their phones via the web browser, making it easier than ever to access learning anytime, anywhere. This update significantly improves the mobile experience, addressing previous limitations and ensuring smoother performance across core functionality. While mobile previously supported only select question types with a suboptimal experience, this release brings a cleaner, more reliable interface so students can confidently work through assignments on the go.
New Compact Toolbar for Older Students 🎨
This updated “Advanced” toolbar is smaller and more streamlined, freeing up additional space on the drawboard so students can focus on their work without distractions. It also sets us up to surface more of our older-years functionality in a clearer, more accessible way in the future. The Advanced toolbar is now available for grades 6 and up.
