Example Problems (Launch Tab)

The Launch Tab automatically generates example problems to help teachers model mathematical thinking before students begin independent work.

How Example Problems Work

When a teacher opens the Launch Tab for an assignment, Magma automatically generates 3 example problems based on the assignment content and difficulty level.

Examples always reflect the structure and rigor of the assignment students are about to complete.

For example:

  • assignments with mild, medium, and spicy problems will display one example of each level

  • assignments with only mild problems will display three mild examples

How Teachers Use It

  1. Open an assignment.

  2. Navigate to the Launch Tab.

  3. Review the generated example problems.

  4. Model one or more examples with students before independent work begins.

Teachers can also use the Scrap Paper tool within the Launch Tab to demonstrate strategies and thinking on a blank canvas.

Why Teachers Use Example Problems

Example Problems help teachers:

  • introduce problem-solving strategies

  • clarify expectations before independent work

  • model mathematical thinking

  • support classroom discussion and reasoning

Because examples are generated automatically, teachers can launch instruction quickly without additional preparation.

Important Notes

  • Example problems are generated automatically.

  • No setup or configuration is required.

  • Problems always align to the current assignment’s difficulty and structure.

  • These examples are designed for teacher-led instruction.

Student Example Problems vs. Launch Tab Example Problems

Launch Tab Example Problems are:

  • teacher-facing

  • designed for whole-class modeling

  • available before students begin working

This feature is separate from Example Problems in Spicy Mode, which are student-facing supports available during independent work.
