Follow-Up Assignments

After students complete an assignment, you can use their results to quickly provide differentiated follow-up practice, without creating separate assignments from scratch.

In the Stats tab, open Expanded view to find the Follow up assignment panel next to the skills matrix. Based on performance on the original assignment, students are automatically organized into three groups:

  • Challenge — Students who scored 70% or higher and are ready for more challenging problems.

  • Repetition — Students who scored 50–70% and would benefit from additional practice on the same skills.

  • Fundamentals — Students who scored below 50% and may need to strengthen foundational skills first.

Hover over a group to see which students are included.

How Follow-Up Assignments Work

Magma automatically selects problems based on the content of the original assignment and adjusts the level of practice for each group.

This allows you to use the results from an assignment to quickly determine each student's next step and provide targeted practice based on their needs.

Create a Follow-Up Assignment

  1. Open a completed assignment and navigate to the Stats tab.

  2. Select Expanded view.

  3. Find the Follow up assignment panel next to the skills matrix.

  4. Review the Challenge, Repetition, and Fundamentals groups.

  5. Hover over a group to see which students are included.

  6. Select the group you'd like to create follow-up practice for.

  7. Review the recommended problems and create the assignment for those students.

You can repeat this process for the other groups to provide differentiated practice across your class.
