In the Live Activity view, teachers can follow pupils' calculations and answers in real-time while they work together on the assignment. We recommend displaying the Live Activity on a large screen at the front of the classroom. This way, the entire class can see their calculations, collaborate towards a common goal, and become more motivated!

To access Live Activity

  • Click on the assignment, just as if to open the Heatmap.

  • At the top right, you'll find the Live Activity button, which will pulse when pupils begin calculating in the assignment.

Pupil progress

Once in Live Activity, you can see pupils' progress at the top of the view. The goal is to reach the flag at the end of the path. There are various milestones reached based on the percentage of the assignment the pupils have completed:

  • First milestone = 10%

  • Second milestone = 25%

  • Third milestone = 60%

  • Final milestone = 100%

There are two ways to track pupil progress:

  • Green check mark = Correct answers

  • Orange thumbs up = Good calculations (Magma's mascot Lava will appear for pupils when they submit clear calculations.)

Good calculations

In the Live Activity view, pupils' good calculations will appear as they submit their answers. If you have Live Activity open on a large screen in the classroom, pupils can see their own calculations, encouraging more engagement in the classroom and fostering discussions about how they arrived at their answers.

Pupils' calculations are automatically anonymised when you enter the Live Activity view, but if you prefer, you can display pupils' names by clicking the icon with a hat and glasses at the top right corner.

At the top of the page, you can also see the number of good calculations pupils have made during the assignment.

Assignment problems

At the bottom of the page, below pupils' calculations, you can view the assignment problems. You’ll see the question numbers and how many problems are included in the assignment.

To stay updated on pupils' progress, you can see when a common mistake is made on a problem. A small red dot will appear next to the problem number, and you can click on the number to see the problem, the common error, and the pupils' incorrect calculations and answers.

This is a great opportunity to pause and address the problems with the pupils, solving it together as a class!

Live Activity is a new feature we're still developing. Feel free to send us feedback via chat, sharing what works well and what could be improved. We’d love to hear from you!
