When you create an assignment in Quiz Mode, you can choose to turn on Safe Mode. Safe Mode is designed to help you, as a teacher, more easily detect if a student tries to leave the quiz. In Safe Mode, you can see if and when a student has left the quiz. If the student leaves, the quiz will pause and lock, and the student cannot continue until you restart it for them.

You enable Safe Mode in the final step of creating an exercise. When you turn on Quiz Mode, Safe Mode appears, and you can turn it on as well.

You start the quiz as usual by clicking the Start button. To view the quiz settings, click the assignment to open the heatmap.

Here, you can Start, Pause, and End the quiz for your students. To the left of the students’ names, you can choose which students you want to Start, Pause, or End the quiz for. At the top left, you can Start, Pause, and End the test for all students at the same time.

If you want to end the test for certain students who have finished working, click on the End button to the left of their names. Then the results are shared with these students, and they can see which tasks they answered correctly and which ones incorrectly.

If the student tries to leave the quiz by clicking the X-mark in the top-left corner, they get the option to stay. If the student still chooses to leave anyway, the quiz will be paused, and the student must ask you, their teacher, to restart it. If the student directly leaves Magma, the quiz pauses automatically.

When a student has left Magma during the quiz, you get a notification.

If you go to the heatmap, you will see a Red Exclamation Mark next to the student's name if they have completely left Magma. There, you can also restart the quiz. If the student left the quiz but stayed in Magma, you will only see the Black-and-White Exclamation Mark next to the safe mode option.

If you hover over the red exclamation mark, you'll see at what time the student left. And if you click the black-and-white exclamation mark, you'll see which student and how many times they've left the quiz.
