Progress Tab: This Year and Previous Years

Teachers can track and compare pupil progress over time with the Progress tab, which includes two tabs: This Year and Historic. This feature makes it easier to see where pupils are excelling and where they may need additional support.

The Progress tab gives you a clear overview of how your pupils are progressing across the maths topics they have worked on.

What you see

· Pupils – every pupil in the class is listed on the left with their overall percentage. The All pupils row at the top shows the class as a whole.

· Areas and topics – the columns are grouped into areas (for example Numbers and Operations or Geometry and measurements), with one column per topic (for example Addition, Fractions or Time).

· Recommendation banner – at the top, Magma suggests what your pupils would benefit from practising next. Click CREATE ASSIGNMENT to build an assignment on that topic straight away.

· Pupil details – click a pupil's name to open their overview, with a completion graph and their pupil data for the school year or this week.

Choosing a school year

Use the drop-down in the top-right corner to switch between school years. The current year is shown by default. Choose the previous year to see how your pupils performed last year – useful for understanding their prior knowledge and readiness at the start of a new year.

Reading the colours

Click the i icon in the top-right corner to see the colour key:

· Dark green: 80–100% correct

· Light green: 60–79% correct

· Yellow: 40–59% correct

· Light red: 20–39% correct

· Red: 0–19% correct

· Grey: no answers yet

How progress is calculated

Progress is based on the percentage of correct answers. For each topic, Magma shows how many of the problems a pupil has answered in that topic were answered correctly, and colours the cell according to the key above. The percentage next to each pupil's name is their overall result across all topics.

Pupils who have not answered any problems in a topic yet are shown in grey, and are not included in the class result for that topic.

Why Progress might look different from your assignments

You may notice that a pupil's result on an assignment is not the same as their result in the Progress tab. This is because an assignment often focuses on a few specific problems, while the Progress tab brings together everything the pupil has answered within a topic.

· Assignments show how the pupil did on the problems in that task.

· The Progress tab shows the pupil's percentage of correct answers across each topic.

Together, they give a fuller picture of pupil learning.
