What is Company Hierarchy for?

Company Hierarchy lets you mirror real world company structures in Makula. For example:

  • A group with regional subsidiaries

  • A distributor with its own customers

Each company stays a single record with one ID, however many places it sits in the hierarchy.

How does the hierarchy work?

  • Multiple parents: a company can sit under two or more parent companies at the same time, while remaining one company.

  • Unlimited levels: hierarchies can go deeper than parent and sub company, for example Group > Region > Site.

  • Multiple top level companies: a company can trace back to any number of top level companies (companies with no parent).

  • Same company, several paths: a company can appear more than once under the same top level company through different routes. For example, if Company A has sub companies B and D, and both B and D have C as a sub company, that is allowed because C is still one company.

  • Sub Companies tab: every company has a Sub Companies tab, not just top level companies.

How do I see the hierarchy in the companies list?

  • Companies with sub companies have an expandable accordion. The accordion icon shows whether a company has sub companies.

  • Expand a company to see its sub companies, indented to show the hierarchy.

  • If a company can be reached through more than one path under the same parent, it is counted once in that parent's sub company count.
