EHIC/GHIC Requirements for EEA Travel:
Each traveler should have a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC).
EHIC cards are only valid if in date, and no new EHIC cards can be issued.
GHIC cards, which have replaced the EHIC, are valid for EU countries and Switzerland but not Iceland, Norway, or Liechtenstein (though this may change).
Apply here: GHIC Application.
Limitations:
EHIC/GHIC cards provide coverage for state-run hospitals only and are not a substitute for travel insurance. They do not cover all medical eventualities.
North America Requirements:
In North America, medical facilities require written consent from a parent or guardian to treat minors.
Each group should bring "loco parentis" or emergency care consent forms completed and signed by parents for their children.
As a supervising adult, you may need to sign these forms when visiting the hospital.
