Overview

Global Fees in Maxanet are reusable fee templates — buyer premiums, sales tax, buyer fees, seller commissions, sliding commission scales, and custom fees — that you create once and then apply to any auction, invoice, or item. Setting them up properly in one place, with descriptive names, saves you time and prevents mistakes when you apply fees later. Important: once a global fee is saved, it cannot be edited — to change a fee you must delete it and re-create it with the corrected values.

How to open the Global Fees page in Maxanet

From your Maxanet Admin panel, click Admin → Configurations → Global Fees in the left-side navigation menu. This page lists every global fee currently configured in your account, grouped by category. Click the green Add button near the top right to create a new fee.

How to create a new global fee and why the Name matters

When you click Add, Maxanet prompts you to choose a fee Category. The available categories are Tax, Fee, Premium, Commission, Seller Fee, and Other. We strongly recommend giving every fee a descriptive name that includes the rate and taxability status — for example 15% Buyers Premium (Taxable), 15% Buyers Premium (non-taxable), or 8.75% Ohio Sales Tax. Descriptive names make it easy to pick the right fee later when you are applying it to an auction or an invoice. Every fee category except Tax can be made taxable or non-taxable, and every fee (Tax included) can be either a flat rate or a percentage rate.

How to create seller commissions and sliding-scale commissions

The Category dropdown also includes Commission and Seller Fee options used for consignor settlements. A commission can be a flat rate or a percentage rate. If you check the optional Sliding Commission Scale checkbox, Maxanet lets you set multiple scales — for example, 20% commission on the first $1,000 and 10% on the remainder. Click +Add Sliding Scale to add additional tiers. Each tier in the scale can be either a flat rate or a percentage. See the Sliding Scale Premium or Sliding Scale Commission article for more detail on tiered commission structures.

Why global fees cannot be edited after saving

Once a Global Fee is saved in Maxanet, it cannot be edited. This is intentional — historical invoices and settlements reference the fee by its saved definition, so changing the underlying fee would retroactively alter past financial records. If you need to correct or update a fee, delete the existing one and re-create it with the new values. Any new auctions or invoices can then use the updated version.

Common questions

Can I edit an existing Global Fee after I save it?

No. Once saved, a global fee cannot be edited. Delete it and re-create it with the correct values — historical invoices referencing the original fee remain intact.

Can a single fee be both taxable and non-taxable?

No. Each fee has one taxable/non-taxable setting. If you need both versions (for example, a taxable and a non-taxable premium at the same rate), create two separate fees with clearly different names.

What's the difference between a Commission and a Seller Fee?

Both apply to consignor settlements. A Commission is typically percentage-based seller compensation; a Seller Fee is often a flat or optional fee. Use whichever better describes the financial relationship with your consignor.

Can I stack multiple fees on a single item or invoice?

Yes. Any auction or invoice can carry multiple global fees — for example, a buyer premium plus sales tax plus a custom fee — all stacked together.
