What are Line Item Discounts?

Line Item discounts are simple, flexible discounts that apply to a single product in the cart.

Line Item discounts can be applied manually by a budtender at POS or automatically using a discount code. They're designed for quick, flexible promotions that don't require triggers or thresholds.

They're often used for:

  • Customer service adjustments

  • Budtender discretion discounts

  • Single-product deals

  • Promotions that can't be automated yet (like "$5 off when you leave a review")

How It Works

Follow these steps to create a Line Item discount in Meadow:

  1. Select your discount type.

    • Choose Line Item when creating a new discount.

    • Add a clear name and description (e.g., $1 Birthday Joint or $5 Review Credit).

  2. Set your discount amount.

    • Choose between Amount Off, Percent Off, or New Price.

      • Amount Off β€” subtract a fixed dollar amount (e.g., $5 off)

      • Percent Off β€” subtract a percentage (e.g., 10% off). Supports "Maximum Discount Value" (e.g., 20% off up to $50)

      • New Price β€” set a specific price for the item (e.g., change the price to $15). Use this when you want to set an exact price rather than calculating a discount amount.

  3. Choose how it's applied.

    • Manual: Budtenders select it from the line item discount list at POS. Manual discounts support "Require Manager PIN to apply"

    • Discount Code: Can be applied using a discount code.

    • Automatic: It is applied automatically to applicable orders.

  4. Add optional rules.

    • Customer Attributes: Limit by group (Veterans, Seniors), birthday, or customer order count.

    • Order Attributes: Restrict to certain order types (in-store, pickup, delivery) or zones.

    • Scheduling: Set specific start/end dates, days of the week, or times of day.

  5. Set stackability.

    • Decide if this Line Item discount can combine with others.

    • If non-stackable, Meadow will always apply the best available discount.

  6. Add optional manager controls.

    • Require a manager PIN for additional approval before manually applying at POS.

  7. Save and activate.

    • Once active, the discount appears in the line item discount list at POS for budtenders to apply.

    • Line Item discounts cannot be applied to the entire order.

Tips & Notes

  • Line Item discounts apply to one product only.

  • You can find them in the line item discount list in POS β€” they won't appear in the order-level list.

  • If you need a discount to apply across multiple items or the full order, create an Order discount instead.

  • Line Item discounts are great for quick, flexible deals that don't require automation.

  • Custom discounts at POS also support "New Price." Use it to change a line item's price to a specific amount, or set a new subtotal for the entire order (the discount will be divided proportionally between line items).
