What are Order Discounts?

Order discounts automatically apply to the entire cart when specific conditions are met — such as subtotal, customer group, or order type.

Updated this week

Order Discounts apply to the order subtotal before taxes and can be set to activate automatically, manually, or by discount code. They’re ideal for storewide deals, happy hours, and customer group promotions that apply across the entire cart.

💡 What’s new: Order Discounts are now divided proportionally across all applicable line items in the order instead of applying a single lump sum after subtotal.

This ensures discounts display consistently across POS, Menu Pro, and reports — and allows Meadow to accurately calculate stacking logic and “pick biggest deal” scenarios.

Order discounts appear in the order-level discount list in POS, not in the line-item discount list. They’re ideal for promotions like “10% off orders over $100” or “20% off for Veterans.”

How It Works

Follow these steps to create an Order discount in Meadow:

  1. Select your discount type.

    • Choose Order when creating a new discount.

    • Give it a clear name (e.g., 20% Off Veterans Day Orders).

  2. Set your discount amount.

    • Choose between Amount Off or Percent Off.

      • Example: $5 off or 10% off

    • Percent off discounts support "Maximum Discount Value"

      • Example: 20% off up to $50

  3. Choose how it’s applied.

    • Manual: Budtenders select it from the line item discount list at POS. Manual discounts support "Require Manager PIN to apply"

    • Discount Code: Can also be applied online using a discount code.

    • Automatic: It is applied automatically to applicable orders.

  4. Add optional qualifying conditions.

    • Minimum Order Subtotal: Require a minimum spend before the discount applies.

    • Customer Attributes: Limit to groups (e.g., Veterans, Seniors), birthdays, or customer order count.

    • Order Attributes: Apply to specific order types (pickup, delivery, in-store) or restrict by delivery zones.

  5. Add optional scheduling.

    • Set start and end dates or specific times for recurring promotions (e.g., Happy Hour 4:20–7:10 PM).

  6. Choose stackability.

    • Allow or prevent this discount from combining with other deals.

    • When non-stackable, Meadow will automatically choose the best deal available.

  7. Save and activate.

    • Once active, the Order discount automatically applies when the order meets your defined conditions.

    • It will appear in the Order Discounts list at checkout.

Tips & Notes

  • Order discounts apply to the entire cart subtotal before tax.

  • You can find them in the order-level discount list in POS — they are not visible in the line-item discount list.

  • Only one order discount can apply at a time unless marked as stackable.

  • Use scheduling to automate recurring promos instead of manually enabling/disabling them.

  • Combine customer groups and scheduling for creative, event-based promotions.
