Need to package bulk cannabis into flower pre-packs or make pre-rolls? You can use Create Package to select a different unit of measure than the source package. Metrc packages denominated by unit weight (such as grams) can now be used to create new packages denominated by unit count (each).
When to use this
Use this when you need to convert inventory from one unit of measure to another — for example:
Converting a bulk flower package measured in grams into a new package measured in "each" for pre-packs
Breaking down bulk inventory into individual pre-rolls
How to change the unit of measure
Go to the Metrc tab → Packages in Admin
Find the source package, click the three dots (⋮) on the right corner, and select Create Package
Select the product and source package — you'll see the available quantity and current unit of measure
Under New Package Unit, select the new unit of measure (e.g., "Each")
Enter the # of units from source package — this is the quantity to use from the source, in the source unit (e.g., 35 grams)
Enter the # of units to new package — this is the number of units created in the new package (e.g., 10 each)
Select or create the New Package METRC Item and assign a New Package Tag
Click Create Metrc Package
Tip: No package tags available? Order them in Metrc: go to Admin → Tags → Available, enter the max quantity allowed, add your shipping address, and click Place Order.
Example
You have a bulk flower package with 112 grams and want to create pre-packs:
Source package: 112 grams
# of units from source package: 35 grams
# of units to new package: 10 each
This uses 35 grams from the source package and creates a new package containing 10 individual units.
Important notes
Changing the unit of measure creates a new Metrc item. If you can't find the correct item, use the Create New Metrc Item button.
Confirm with your state's regulations before converting units at retail.
The new package appears in "Ready" status — receive it through a purchase order or use Package Intake to receive it directly.
Common questions
Can I convert "each" back to grams?
Yes — the unit conversion works both ways. Select "Grams" as the new package unit when creating from an "each" source package.
What happens to the source package?
The quantity you used is deducted from the source package. The remaining inventory stays on the original package.
Where do I create a new Metrc package in Meadow?
Go to Metrc tab → Packages, find the source package, click the three dots (⋮), and select Create Package.
