How Do I Use the Packing Tool?

Streamline your inventory and order packing operations with the Packing Tool on the iPad app

Updated over 3 weeks ago

The Meadow iPad app's Packing Tool allows you to see and manage new orders that come in that need to be packed up for fulfillment. These could be:

  • In-Store Orders from a Drawerless shift

  • Pick-Up Orders from the Embedded Menu or Admin

  • Delivery Orders from the Embedded Menu or Admin

  • Kiosk Orders can be either Pick-Up or Delivery

Packing Slips

  • New orders that come in will automatically print a packing slip if you have a printer connected to the packing iPad.

  • Use the toggles on each tab (In-store, pickup, and delivery) to select which order types automatically print a packing slip (if any).

  • You can also manually pull the order up on the screen and pack it without printing.

  • Important: Ensure that the Packing tool remains open on the iPad to enable automatic printing of receipts when orders are packed.

Delivery Receipts

  • On the Delivery tab there is a second toggle in addition to the "prints packing slip" option. If this "Delivery" toggle is active, a delivery receipt will automatically print for every order.

  • If both toggles are active, both a packing slip and delivery receipt will print automatically for delivery orders.

  • If any receipts are missed due to the tool being closed earlier, they can be reprinted manually later, ensuring no receipt is left unaccounted for.

Scanning and Marking Packed

  • If an order contains Metrc packages, you will be required to scan a label to confirm the Metrc packages being used for the order.

  • If you scan a different package of the same product, the packages on the order will be swapped.

  • Once the products have been scanned, you can click "Mark Packed" which will change the order's status in Admin and also remove it from the packing tool.

  • Checking out an order at POS will also remove the order from the packing tool.

Pull to refresh orders list

  • You can now swipe the screen to refresh incoming orders

Setting Up an iPad and Printer as a Packing Station

  • Confirm that you have an iPad and a compatible printer connected to your system.

  • Open the Meadow app on the iPad and navigate to the Packing tool.

  • Ensure that the Packing tool remains open continuously. This setup ensures receipts are printed automatically whenever orders are packed.

Repurposing a Packing iPad Temporarily

  • Impact of Closing the Packing Tool: Automatic receipt printing stops, and you’ll need to restart the tool to resume operations.

  • Reprinting Missed Receipts: Receipts missed while the Packing tool was closed can still be printed manually after reopening.

  • This temporary use of the iPad doesn’t affect its packing station setup and it can easily be returned to its original function.
