How do I use drawerless shifts?
How do I use drawerless shifts?

Do you have salespeople who sell products and create orders but do not handle inventory or payment? Save time with drawerless shifts.

Updated over a week ago

Does your shop have salespeople who create orders that are prepared and processed off the sales floor?

With a drawerless shift, you can create an order at POS without selecting a payment type or amount. You can also update existing orders (for example changing products, discounts or packages).

Orders created at drawerless will have the status "new" and their type (and source) will be "in-store." Orders updated at drawerless will keep their status ("new" or "packed") and source (delivery, pickup, or in-store).

  • New orders created at drawerless will be visible on any iPad running POS under the Orders tab (button in top right corner).

  • The new order will also be visible in Admin under the New Orders tab.

  • By selecting the order in Admin or the packing tool, you can mark it as "packed," for example when the inventory room finishes preparing it for sale.

  • The order can be completed at POS (using a normal shift) from the "new" or "packed" status.

Setting up Drawerless Shifts

  • To create orders at drawerless shifts and ring them out elsewhere, you need to have at least two iPads with the Meadow app installed: one for the drawerless shift and the other for the normal shift.

  • Enable drawerless shifts by clicking "Shifts can be started without a cash drawer" in In-store Settings.

  • When you open a new shift on POS you will be give the option to select either a "normal" or "drawerless" shift type (as below).

Notes

  • Unlike normal shifts, a drawerless shift's activity will not show up in Drawers or have any balance (revenue) associated with it.

  • However, in the Dashboard the order (and its revenue) will be attributed to the user/salesperson who created the order (at the drawerless shift).

  • If a packed order is updated at a drawerless shift, the "packed by" user and time will update.

Using Packing Mode

  • In addition to creating new orders, drawerless shifts can also send a packing receipt to your inventory room.

  • To do this, set up a third iPad, connect a receipt printer and select the "Packing" tool.

  • As long as the two iPads (drawerless and packing) are on the same wifi network, orders created at drawerless will print a receipt at the "packing" iPad so you can prepare the order.

  • The receipts printed at packing contain a QR code at the bottom which can be scanned at POS (normal shift) to bring up the order and complete the transaction.

Anonymous Orders

  • When an anonymous order (no customer attached) is created in a drawerless shift, you will be prompted to enter a customer name.

  • This name is encoded onto the receipt in the QR code. Names are not stored in the system for anonymous orders.

  • The cashier can scan the QR code to pull up the order. This lets the cashier know who to ring up for each order as it's ready.

  • Scanning in the order at the cashier iPad (normal shift) will bring up the order and allow you to finalize it.
