This is a tutorial to show you how to set up the timing of your welcome emails so that new members complete your welcome sequence before they get added to your main mailing list.
We'll be using Kit as an example, though you can tailor this strategy to your preferred email service if you use a different one!
We're covering a very specific use case in this article, so this strategy is going to work best for you if:
You send emails to your list on a weekly or more frequent basis.
You have a welcome email series (2 or more emails) set up that new subscribers go through when they join your list.
You want your members to complete your welcome email series prior to receiving your regular newsletter.
If this is you, or you're curious to learn how to do this, great! Here's how to automate this process:
In your MV admin dashboard, click on "Members" > "Actions".
Click "Add Action", and use the "Creates Account" trigger.
Add a tag, and give your tag a name like "[New User] Onboarding." (You only need to add this tag to MV -- we'll send this info over to your email service the first time the action runs!)
After you have written your broadcasts (email newsletters) in Kit, you'll see a screen that allows you to control who receives your email. Select the option for Matching "none" of the following, and select the "Subscribed To (insert your onboarding tag)." Now those members who have the "[New User] Onboarding" tag will not receive that email newsletter.
Create a Visual Automation in Kit and use your onboarding tag as the trigger to begin the automation.
Add a step to wait for x number of days until you have sent all of your onboarding emails for your list.
Add a final step to remove the onboarding tag from your subscriber after your specified time period. Those subscribers will now begin receiving your regular emails!
In the steps above, we covered how to set this automation up when someone first creates an account with you in MemberVault This is because your member may purchase multiple products from you over time, and you don't necessarily always want to send them through this automation everytime.
If, however, you would like to recreate this automation for a specific product, you can! All you'll need to do is create the action in MV in your product actions rather than member actions.
