As part of our direct integration with Mailchimp, you can set up actions in your MemberVault products and offers to tag your subscribers in Mailchimp when they complete certain activities throughout your MV account.

This article will show you how tags communicate between Mailchimp and MV, how to set these up, and which tags we recommend using.

How Tagging Works

When you set up an action in MV and you have Mailchimp integrated with your MV account, this will give you the option to "Add a Tag" in the "Do This" section of your actions.

You can use tags to categorize your Mailchimp subscribers based on which products they've purchased, trigger visual automations or rules in Mailchimp, and manage your members' email consent preferences.

**Note: Mailchimp also allows you to create multiple different audiences. Depending on your Mailchimp plan, you may be limited in the number of these you create, so tagging is especially handy for creating multiple categories to sort your members within one Mailchimp audience.

How to create an action in your product in MemberVault.

  1. Select the Product you wish to edit and scroll down until you see Actions. If you do not see the gray box automatically populated, simply select "Add Action."

  2. Set up your action to show the following items:

    1. "When this happens..." should be "Added to Product"

    2. "How" could be "(any)" or you can further categorize this based on how people are signing up for your product

    3. "Do this" should be "Add a Tag"

    4. "Name of Tag" -- we recommend using something that is easy to identify like "[Your Product Name] Purchased"

You do not need to create the tag in Mailchimp first -- our system will send this over to Mailchimp the first time your action fires. If you are creating a welcome email automation, you can copy and paste the tag from your action into your Mailchimp automation.

Best Practices of Tags to Use

Here are the basic action triggers we recommend including:

  • Added to your product

  • Consent Given (set up Consent Tags under "Members" > "Actions")

  • Consent Not Given

  • Becomes a Hot Lead for your product

If you want to further customize your members' experience, you can also add tags for these actions:

  • Added to your product via a certain payment type, webhooks, manual adds etc

  • Completing a lesson/module/full product

  • Choosing a particular multiple choice quiz answer

  • Earning X number of EP in your product
