How to Add a Competitor Social Profile

A step by step guide on how to monitor competitors' social profiles.

You can track competitors’ public data on social media when allowed by platform APIs through Mentionlytics.

Below, we explain how to do it.

How to Add a Competitor Profile

  1. Go to your Mention Trackers

  2. Open the desired Tracker

  3. Click (+) Add

  4. Select “I want to add a Social Profile.”

  5. Paste the competitor’s URL or handle

  6. Select platform

  7. Click Update

Mentionlytics will start collecting publicly available posts from the moment you add a profile onwards.

You can also add social profiles from your Account Configuration section, where you can also view and authorize your already existing profiles.

💡Tip: You can add social profiles to your Marketing Leads Section and through your Account Configuration.

Platform Authorization & Restrictions

In this section, you can understand exactly what data Mentionlytics gathers for your competitors from each platform, whether authorization is required, and the limitations you should be aware of.

Facebook

Competitor Monitoring: Supported for public pages only.

Authorization Required: Authorization is not required to monitor competitor public pages.

What Mentionlytics Captures

  • Posts from public Facebook pages

  • First-level comments (anonymized)

  • Basic post types (i.e., except for reels and stories)

Limitations

  • Personal profiles cannot be tracked

  • Stories, reels, and tagged mentions are not available for competitor monitoring

  • Comments remain anonymized


Instagram

Competitor Monitoring: Supported for Business profiles only


Authorization Requirement: At least one authorized Business Instagram profile (connected to Facebook) is required to enable keyword monitoring on Instagram overall and competitor monitoring.

The authorized profile does not need to belong to the competitor.

What Mentionlytics Captures

  • Basic post types from added business profiles

Limitations

  • Comments are not available for competitor profiles

  • Stories and tagged mentions are not supported

  • Personal profiles cannot be monitored


LinkedIn

Competitor Monitoring: Limited to public business pages

Authorization Required: At least one authorized page is required to activate LinkedIn monitoring capabilities.

What Mentionlytics Captures

  • A sample of public mentions through keyword tracking (available in Advanced plans and higher-tier plans)

Limitations

  • Strict API restrictions significantly reduce public data availability

  • Some mentions may appear under web sources instead


Threads

Competitor Monitoring: Not Supported

Due to API limitations, competitor tracking is currently unavailable on Threads, even through keyword-based monitoring.


YouTube

Competitor Monitoring: Public accounts supported only

Authorization Required: No

  • Channel owned media

  • Videos and Shorts

  • Public comments

  • Public engagement metrics


X (Twitter)

Competitor Monitoring: Public accounts supported only

Authorization Required: No

What Mentionlytics Captures

  • Public tweets and retweets containing tracked keywords

  • Private tweets

  • Protected accounts

  • Direct messages


TikTok

Competitor Monitoring: Public accounts supported only

Authorization Required: No

💡You can add a subreddit for monitoring all posts containing the keyword you track or not.

Pinterest does not currently provide keyword-based monitoring for competitor content.
