After you create your keywords, you might need to change or refine them. In this short guide, you’ll learn how to fully manage your keywords in Mentionlytics.

We’ll walk you through how to edit an existing keyword, temporarily pause it when you don’t need results, and permanently delete it if it's no longer relevant. Each action takes just a few clicks and gives you full control over your monitoring setup.

How to Edit a Keyword

To access Keyword editing, find the keyword you want to update, hover over it, and click the pencil icon.

A pop-up window will appear with all available settings.

Where to find the edit keyword button

If you want to simply correct or rewrite your main keyword, you can do so in the Main Keyword box at the top.

How to edit the main keyword

If you make a mistake, simply press the “x” next to your main keyword and retype the correct keyword.

How to retype a wrong keyword

You can also expand the Required and Excluded Keywords Options and the Advanced Options to access additional settings.

Additional keyword Settings

  • The active checkbox is a way to pause a keyword temporarily (you can resume it anytime).

  • You also have the option to move a keyword to a different Mention Tracker using the dropdown below the main keyword box.

Save Your Changes

Before saving, the system will ask you to choose one of the following:

  • Keep existing mentions and apply changes from this point forward, or

  • Delete existing mentions and collect new mentions based on your updated settings.

Choose carefully depending on what you need.

After that, you can test your setup or click Update to apply your changes.

What to do before updating your existing tracker

How to Pause a Keyword

If a keyword is not relevant for now, or it consumes a large number of mentions, you have the ability to pause it temporarily.

  1. Hover over the keyword you want to pause.

  2. Click the Play/Pause button.

How to pause a keyword

Important note: Pausing a keyword stops Mentionlytics from collecting new mentions, helping you manage your quota more efficiently. You can reactivate it at any time. This is especially useful when you want to review initial results before deciding whether to continue tracking that keyword.

How to Delete a Keyword

  • Click the trash/bin icon next to the keyword you want to remove.

  • Once you confirm the deletion, the keyword and all mentions associated with it will be permanently removed from the platform.

Be careful: This action is irreversible. Once a keyword is deleted, its mentions cannot be recovered, so we suggest either pausing or changing the keyword if you wish to retain the older mentions.

It is important to keep in mind that deleted mentions still count towards your mentions quota.

Also if you recreate the same keyword in the same tracker, the latest mentions will not reappear, since they were deleted.
