Are you interested in seeing what has been said about your brand in the last month or year? Are you looking to spot trends online over time? If this is the case you may need historical data for your keyword. This article will explain step-by-step how to get historical mentions with Mentionlytics.

Why do I need Historical Data?

Mentionlytics does not collect past mentions by default. It starts tracking the newest mentions from the moment you enter your keyword in the system onward. If you choose a prior period for monitoring (e.g 60 days back) you might still get mentions but they are not a complete, comprehensive analysis.

For historical research or trend detection, you can also request data from past publications (e.g., mentions from the last 60 days). However, historical searches do not include continuous updates, they are limited to what’s already available in past data.

If you need to retrieve historical data (mentions or posts made before today), you can use the Historical Data add-on, which is available to subscribers of the Advanced, Pro, Agency, or Enterprise plans.

Tip: To avoid this, we suggest making sure you are monitoring anything you think is relevant from day 1 in Mentionlytics!

Of course, if you have been subscribed to Mentionlytics throughout the period you want to monitor, your data is already archived and accessible, so no need to purchase historical data!

What is the cost for Historical Data?

The historical mentions will be charged separately on top of the subscription fee. The price for historical data is 10$ for 1 keyword, in 1 channel (e.g Facebook, Twitter etc.) for every 1000 mentions pulled.

How to request a historical data pull?

You can place a request for a historical data pull in our support chat or via email to your support agent with the following details:

1. The keyword(s) you want to monitor (with their current filters)

2. The channel(s) you need (e.g Web, Twitter)

3. The period you are interested in (e.g 30 days back, 60 days back, etc.)

After we receive your historical data request, we will get back to you with an estimation quote and more technical details. Our technical team might need additional information to perform the data collection such as, for example, specific pages or business profiles you are interested in, any exclusions that need to be made like results from brands with the same/similar name as your product/brand, etc.

To ensure the best results we evaluate each request individually on a case by case level.

Important note: The final cost for Historical data might vary slightly from the initial estimation cost!

The historical data pull may take up to 5 business days, depending on the volume of the data that needs to be collected.

What sources do you use for Historical data?

We bring historical mentions from social media and web sources such as blogs, forums, news, and corporate websites.

However, each network has its specific requirements regarding this process and limitations (e.g how far back in time we can go, what filters we can apply, etc.)

  • Twitter, Web, YouTube: No restrictions; you can go as far back as needed.

  • Facebook: Only for specific Pages (not keyword tracking).

  • Instagram,Tiktok,Reddit for keywords up to 1000 latest mentions

  • LinkedIn: Only for authorized Linkedin Pages

  • Social Profiles : Fb, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter, Youtube (public profiles or business profiles).

Note: In general, for Twitter, we would recommend avoiding retweets as they can be 50-80% of the mentions in some cases and do not provide much useful information.

How can I view my historical mentions?

After the historical data is completed, you will be notified about the availability of the data by our customer support team. The historical mentions will appear directly in your account under the requested keywords and channels!
