If you're looking to refill your prescription, here's what you need to know:
Appointment May Be Required
For certain medications (especially newly prescribed ones), a follow-up appointment is required before refills can be approved.
This allows your provider to:
Check how you're responding to the medication
Adjust dosage if needed
Ensure it's the right treatment for you
Example: If you were prescribed a 30-day supply of a new medication (like Buspirone), a follow-up visit is usually scheduled about a month later to review progress.
Controlled Medication Refills
If you are prescribed a controlled medication (such as stimulants or other regulated substances), additional rules apply:
Follow-up appointments are required. Controlled medications will not be refilled unless you are up to date on your scheduled visits. If you miss a required appointment, your medication will be paused until you are seen by your provider.
Early refills are not approved. Patients are expected to take their medication on the prescribed schedule. In rare cases, your provider may review a request, but approval is not guaranteed.
Lost or stolen medication cannot be replaced. Due to federal regulations, controlled medications that are reported lost or stolen are not eligible for replacement.
For full details, see our Controlled Medication Policy.
What Happens After the Follow-Up?
If the provider confirms the medication is working well:
Refills may be authorized
Future follow-ups could be spaced out (e.g., every 3 months)
How to Request a Refill
To request a refill:
Check if a follow-up is needed (especially for new or controlled medications).
Attend your scheduled appointment or reach out to schedule one.
After the appointment, the provider can submit the refill to your pharmacy if appropriate.
