Creating the Custom Pass Type

You can configure the hall pass to bypass school-wide rules so that students with medical, educational, or other requirements always have access to the pass.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating an Unlimited Pass Type

  1. Select Hall Pass from the main menu.

  2. Click on the Types tab.

  3. Select the blue Create type button to create a hall pass type from scratch.

    β€’ You can also edit an existing hall pass type by clicking the blue edit pencil next to the type.

  4. Enter the name of the hall pass (ex. Unlimited Pass, 504)

  5. Optional: Select an icon and color for your pass type. This will help it stand out on the Hall Pass Dashboard.

  6. Under the Hall Pass restrictions heading, toggle ON Limit students this pass is available to.

  7. Click Add to add students who ARE allowed to create or be assigned this pass.

  8. Under the Settings heading, ensure the following are toggled ON:

    Students can create a pass.

    • This allows students to initiate the pass themselves without waiting for a teacher.

    Ignore Blackouts.

    • This setting allows the student to create a pass even during restricted times like the first or last 10 minutes of class.

    Ignore Limits.

    • This setting ensures the pass remains available even if the student has reached their daily or weekly pass quota.

  9. Click Save.

  10. The pass type will be disabled by default, to make it visible to the students, set the toggle under Active to ON.


Limit the Pass so Only Eligible Students Can Use It

To ensure only students with specific IEP or 504 requirements can see this unrestricted pass, you must limit its visibility to a specific list of students. This will also ensure that Teachers can only assign this pass type to the students on the list.

Step-by-step Guide to Limiting Students

  1. Next to the Hall Pass Type, click the blue edit pencil.

  2. Scroll down to the Hall pass restrictions.

  3. Ensure the setting Limit students this pass is available to is toggled ON.

  4. Click Add Students.

  5. Search for the student names, ID, or email address. Or you can upload a CSV file, select from a user list, or from a Group.

  6. Select the students you would like the pass to be available to.

  7. Click Save.


FAQs

Will this pass show up for all students?

This unrestricted pass will only show up for the specific students you added in the Visibility settings. Other students will only see the standard hall passes available to the general student body.
