Using MNTN's Creative Setup

Understand how to upload your ads using MNTN's Creative Setup.

MNTN's Creative Setup accelerates the campaign build process, simplifying onboarding for both TV and, if desired, Multi-Touch ads.

Creative Setup Definitions

Name

Description

Creative

Creative refers to your ads, either TV commercials or Multi-Touch ads, depending on the context.

TV Commercial

TV commercial refers to your ad that is served across TV Networks. You may see this referred to as Video Creative in the platform.

Multi-Touch Group

A Multi-Touch group is a set of Multi-Touch ad sizes, either dynamic or static.

Creative Group

If your campaign only runs with TV commercials, a creative group refers to an uploaded TV commercial and its appended tracking parameters.

If you choose to leverage MNTN Multi-Touch within your campaign, a creative group refers to a TV commercial, its associated Multi-Touch group, and the appended tracking parameters.

Tracking Parameters

A string of third-party parameters is used to monitor and analyze the effectiveness of your MNTN campaign.

Campaign Shell

A campaign shell refers to the campaign you're editing. It includes an Audience tab, Budget & Goal tab, Creative tab, and Review & Launch tab.

Creative Group Weighting

MNTN's weighting feature determines the percentage of users or households that will be served that creative group if running with multiple creative groups within your campaign shell.

Static Ad Group

A Static Ad Group is a set of static Multi-Touch ad sizes.


Uploading TV Commercials with MNTN's Creative Setup

Uploading a New TV Commercial

1️⃣ Begin on your campaign shell's Creative step.

2️⃣ You'll be immediately prompted to select a blue + Add Group button.

3️⃣ A new pop-up window named New Creative Group will appear once clicked.

💡 Note: Should you run with MNTN Multi-Touch, you will also upload your Multi-Touch group from the New Creative Group pop-up window. Additional instructions on uploading your Multi-Touch group are outlined below.

4️⃣ Select the + within the box associated with Video Creative.

5️⃣ You'll be brought to a new page within the window named Select from My TV Videos. Select the blue Upload New button in the top-right corner of the screen.

7️⃣ A new pop-up window will appear named Upload Video, where you'll have three options for upload:

  • Drag-n-Drop: Drag your TV commercial file onto the page to upload.

  • Choose File: Navigate through your computer's files, then select your TV commercial's file for upload.

  • Dropbox: Upload your TV commercial file directly from your Dropbox account.

8️⃣ Once uploaded, you will be navigated back to the Select from My TV Videos window. The new TV commercial will appear as a line item. Select the blue + Add to Group button to apply the TV commercial to the creative group.

9️⃣ Input your third-party tracking parameters when prompted. Once entered, click the blue Done button.

💡 Note: A Visit URL is required, but Visit Tracking and Impression Tracking are only necessary if you want to send data to third-party platforms.

1️⃣0️⃣ You'll be navigated back to the New Creative Group window. Click on the pencil icon to name your TV commercial.

1️⃣1️⃣ Should it be applicable, upload your MNTN Multi-Touch ads. Otherwise, if only running with TV commercials, select the green Done button to attach the creative group to your campaign shell.

💡 Note: Once your creative group is uploaded, you'll be able to preview your video creative from the Creative Groups page, seen on the Creative step of your campaign shell, simply by clicking on the TV commercial.

Attaching a Previously Uploaded TV Commercial

1️⃣ Begin on your campaign shell's Creative step.

2️⃣ Select the blue + Add New button.

3️⃣ You'll be brought to a new page within the window named Select from My TV Videos.

4️⃣ Find the line item for the TV commercial you wish to apply to this creative group. The status should read Ready. Select the blue + Add to Group button on that line item.

6️⃣ A drawer will appear where you must input your third-party tracking parameters when prompted. Once entered, click the blue Done button.

💡 Note: A Visit URL is required, but Visit Tracking and Impression Tracking are only necessary if you want to send data to third-party platforms.

7️⃣ Should it be applicable, upload your MNTN Multi-Touch ads. Otherwise, if only running with TV commercials, select the green Done button to attach the creative group to your campaign shell.

Duplicating a TV Commercial Already Attached to a Campaign

1️⃣ Begin on your campaign shell's Creative tab.

2️⃣ Select the blue + Add New button.

3️⃣ You'll be brought to a new page within the window named Select from My TV Videos.

4️⃣ Find the line item for the TV commercial you wish to apply to this creative group. Select the blue + Add to Group button on that line item.

5️⃣ A pop-up window named Duplicate Creative will appear. Rename your TV commercial and hit the blue Done button.

6️⃣ A drawer will appear where you must input your third-party tracking parameters when prompted. Once entered, click the blue Done button.

💡 Note: A Visit URL is required, but Visit Tracking and Impression Tracking are only necessary if you want to send data to third-party platforms.

7️⃣ Should it be applicable, upload your MNTN Multi-Touch ads. Otherwise, if only running with TV commercials, select the green Done button to attach the creative group to your campaign shell.


Weighting Your Creative Groups

Once all your desired creative groups are attached to your campaign shell, you'll need to define each creative group's weighting.

💡 Note: You must always define your creative group's weighting, whether it be 0% or 100%. Your creative groups' combined weighting must total 100%.

1️⃣ Navigate to your campaign shell's Creative step.

2️⃣ Select the blue % Adjust Weighting button in the top-right corner of your campaign shell's Creative tab.

3️⃣ A drawer named Adjust Weighting will appear. Find the Weight % box associated with your creative group. Define that creative group's weight within this box.

4️⃣ Repeat step 3 for all creative groups you'd like to be live.

5️⃣ Once complete and all creative group's weightings total 100%, select the green Save button in the bottom right corner.

💡 Note: Should you choose to run with MNTN Multi-Touch, the defined weighting will apply to the TV commercial and the associated Multi-Touch group.


Uploading MNTN Multi-Touch with MNTN's Creative Setup

If you wish to apply MNTN Multi-Touch, ensure the toggle is on. This can be seen in your campaign shell's Budget & Goal step.

💡Note: To upload your MNTN Multi-Touch ads, attach your TV commercial to the creative group first.

1️⃣ You'll start on the window named New Creative Group. Once your TV commercial has been uploaded to the creative group, select the + within the box associated with Multi-Touch Creative.

2️⃣ Once selected, a pop-up window named Add New Multi-Touch Creative will appear. You'll be prompted with 4 options - select your desired path forward:

My Multi-Touch Creatives

Maybe you previously uploaded a multi-touch group that you now want to use. The My Multi-Touch Creatives option lets you attach a multi-touch group within your Creative Library.

If you've selected My Multi-Touch Creatives and have not previously used the Multi-Touch group:

3️⃣ You'll be brought to a new window named Select from Multi-Touch Creative.

4️⃣ Find the line item associated with the Multi-Touch group you want to upload. That line item's status will read Ready. Click the blue + Add to Group button.

5️⃣ You'll be navigated back to the New Creative Group window. Ensure your tracking parameters are appended if you did not accomplish this when uploading your TV commercial to the creative group. Select the blue Set Tracking & Params button to accomplish this.

6️⃣ Otherwise, to save your creative group, hit the green Done button in the bottom right corner of the window.

7️⃣ Proceed to weighting your creative groups.

If you have selected My Multi-Touch Creatives and wish to utilize a Multi-Touch group linked to a campaign:

3️⃣ You'll be brought to a new window named Select from Multi-Touch Creative.

4️⃣ Find the line item associated with the Multi-Touch group you want to upload. That line item's status will read Attached. Click the blue + Add to Group button.

5️⃣ A new pop-up window named Duplicate Creative will appear. Rename the Multi-Touch group and hit the green Save button. This will attach the ads to your creative group.

6️⃣ You'll be navigated back to the New Creative Group window. Ensure your tracking parameters are appended if you did not accomplish this when uploading your TV commercial to the creative group. Select the blue Set Tracking & Params button to accomplish this.

7️⃣ Otherwise, to save your creative group, hit the green Done button in the bottom right corner of the window.

8️⃣ Proceed to weighting your creative groups.

Browse Templates

By choosing the Browse Templates, your team can access MNTN Ad Builder's pre-designed templates, allowing you to incorporate rich media like video (your content or via MNTN's Shutterstock integration), dynamic product carousels, countdown timers, and more.

Once you've selected your desired template and adjusted three general ad sizes, you can either:

  • Save: Save the Multi-Touch group to your Creative Library to edit or use in the future.

  • Apply to Campaign: Attach the multi-touch group to your campaign shell.

Blank New Ad

You can utilize MNTN's Ad Builder without using a pre-existing template. The Blank New Ad option enables complete customization of your multi-touch group.

If you proceed with the Start with a Blank Ad option, create your three general ad sizes. After generating all ad sizes, you can:

  • Save: Save the Multi-Touch group to your Creative Library to edit or use in the future.

  • Apply to Campaign: Attach the multi-touch group to your campaign shell.

Static Upload

The Static Creative option lets your team upload static ads created outside the MNTN platform. This is often chosen when you wish to use ads created for different campaigns or when your internal creative team prefers working with their creative tools and systems.


If uploading your multi-touch ads, there are a few requirements your ads must adhere to:

✅ Your multi-touch group must contain at least 3 ad sizes.

✅ Your multi-touch group must contain the 300x250 ad size.

✅ Your static ads cannot incorporate rich media. More details can be found here if leveraging GIFs.

🧠 Pro Tip: Though you are only required to run with 3 ad sizes, we recommend running with the following 6 ad sizes to ensure you have access to the widest array of inventory: 300x250, 728x90, 320x50, 300x50, 160x600, 300x600.

Once confirmed, you can complete the following next steps:

3️⃣ You'll be brought to a new window named Static Ad Group. Enter your desired naming convention by clicking the pencil icon.

4️⃣ Proceed to upload your ad sizes. Either:

  • Click: Upload the file containing your multi-touch ad sizes, or upload the individual ad size files directly from your computer.

  • Drag: Drag your file containing your multi-touch ad sizes, or individually drop the ad size files onto the page.

4️⃣ Hit the green Save button in the bottom right corner of the window. This will attach the ads to your creative group.

5️⃣ You'll be navigated back to the New Creative Group window. Ensure your tracking parameters are appended if you did not accomplish this when uploading your TV commercial to the creative group. Select the blue Set Tracking & Params button to accomplish this.

6️⃣ Otherwise, to save your creative group, hit the green Done button in the bottom right corner of the window.

7️⃣ Proceed to weighting your creative groups.


Editing Creative Groups

Your team can always make simple adjustments to your creative groups, pre- or post-launch. Depending on your team's needs, follow the steps outlined below.

🧠 Pro Tip: We don't recommend editing groups once live as it can muddy the performance data seen in your reporting. Instead, we recommend uploading a new creative group with desired changes for the most accurate reporting.

Edit Your Creative's Naming Convention within Your Creative Group

Perhaps your team wants to refresh your creative naming convention across all of your creative groups; edit your creative group's naming conventions by completing the following steps:


1️⃣ Navigate to the campaign shell's Creative step.

2️⃣ Find the square associated with the creative group you wish to edit. Click the kebab menu on that square.

3️⃣ Select Edit Group from the dropdown menu. The New Creative Group window will appear.

4️⃣ If updating the TV commercial's naming convention, click the pencil icon next to the TV commercial's previous naming convention.

If running with MNTN Multi-Touch and wanting to update the Multi-Touch group's naming convention, click the pencil icon next to the Multi-Touch group's previous naming convention.

5️⃣ Make your desired edits.

6️⃣ Hit enter.

7️⃣ Hit the green Done button in the bottom-right corner.

Replace a Creative within the Creative Group

If your team made a minor tweak to your ad, like adjusting a logo's size or misspelled word, and you wish to keep your reporting consistent, replace the creative within the creative group:

1️⃣ Navigate to the campaign shell's Creative step.

2️⃣ Find the square associated with the creative group you wish to edit. Click the kebab menu on that square.

3️⃣ Select Edit Group from the dropdown menu. The New Creative Group window will appear.

4️⃣ If replacing the TV commercial, click the kebab menu seen underneath the ad.

If you choose to run with MNTN Multi-Touch and want to replace the Multi-Touch group, click the kebab menu seen underneath the Multi-Touch ads.

5️⃣ Select Replace Creative from the dropdown menu.

6️⃣ You'll proceed in one of two ways:

  • Replacing TV Commercial: follow the steps outlined here.

  • Replacing Multi-Touch Ads: follow the steps outlined here.

🧠 Pro Tip: If you are running with MNTN Multi-Touch and are planning on replacing both creatives within the creative group, we recommend you create a net new creative group.

Edit Your Creative Group's Tracking Parameters

Your team may want to adjust the UTM parameters and change the Visit URL of your Multi-Touch ads. If so, complete the following steps:

1️⃣ Navigate to the campaign shell's Creative step.

2️⃣ Find the square associated with the creative group you wish to edit. Click the kebab menu on that square.

3️⃣ Select Edit Group from the dropdown menu.

4️⃣ The New Creative Group window will appear. Select the blue Set Tracking & Params button in this window's top-right corner.

5️⃣ The Edit Tracking Parameters drawer will appear. Make the needed changes to your third-party tracking parameters from this drawer.

6️⃣ Click the blue Done button in the bottom-right corner of the drawer.

7️⃣ You'll be navigated back to the New Creative Group window. Select the green Done in the bottom-right corner of this window.


Deleting Creative Groups

Though there is no limit to the number of creative groups within a campaign shell if your team constantly rotates creatives in and out, the campaign shell can begin to feel flooded with creative groups.

Easily clean up your campaign shell by deleting creative groups:

1️⃣ Navigate to your campaign shell's Creative step.

2️⃣ Find the creative group you wish to delete. Select the kebab menu associated with the creative group.

3️⃣ Select Delete Group from the dropdown menu.

4️⃣ If the creative group is weighted at 0%: a pop-up window will appear prompting you to select Yes or No. Selecting Yes will delete the creative group from your campaign shell.

If the creative group is weighted 1%+: the Adjust Weighting drawer will appear. Readjust your creative groups' weightings, then hit the green Save button in the bottom-right corner of the drawer when complete.

💡 Note: The removed creative will continue to be reflected in historical reporting, and any removed creative will still be available for future use in your My Creative library.


Understanding Your Creative Group Status

To set your creative group live, your uploaded ads will undergo status changes after the upload:

Incomplete

Ads in the Incomplete stage require completing the Tracking Parameters section or should have elected to run with it, a Multi-Touch group. Complete either of these steps to push your creative group to the In Review stage.

In Review

After completing your tracking details, your creative group enters the In Review stage. Our Support Team manually reviews all creatives to ensure they comply with our Creative Content Guidelines before serving on networks and exchanges.

Approved

Once Approved, your creative group is ready to push live. Adjust your creative group's weighting to your liking.

Ready

Once your creatives have been linked and are in the Ready stage, you can set your ads live by assigning a weight to your creative group.

Live

If your creative group reads Live, your creative group is being served to your targeted users. You can monitor its performance and success directly from the reporting dashboard. You can adjust the weighting to this creative group at any point.

Queued

If you have leveraged the Replace Creative feature, and you have applied the new creative to the campaign, you will see the creative group's status defined as Queued until it has been reviewed and approved.

Once the new ad is approved, it immediately takes over as the Live Creative and you have successfully replaced the creative. If the ad set is weighted then it will automatically go live. If not, it will go live once you weight that ad set over 0%.

Ended

When your creative group reads Ended, your creative group is no longer being served to your targeted users. This signals that your campaign's flighted budget has ended.
