  • First check that the cash drawer had not been manually locked.

    • The key / keylock position should be vertical and NOT horizontal.

  • Check that the cash drawer is not physically jammed or stuck.

    • Make sure that you can manually open the cash drawer using the key.

  • Now check the cash drawer connection.

    • Cash Drawers can be connected to an EPOS system in 2 ways, so you need to physically follow the flat cable that comes out of the back of the cash drawer and check that it is connected to either the printer or the EPOS terminal:

If the cash drawer is connected to the EPOS printer:

  • Check that the flat cash drawer cable with the RJ11 (telephone style) connector is securely connected to the printer port labelled either drawer or DK.

  • Now check the TouchPoint EPOS terminal screen, bottom left hand corner and see if there is a flashing error message - DEVICE ERROR.

  • If there is a DEVICE ERROR, check that the printer is turned on. If the printer is already turned on then do the following:

    • Reset the printer (power off, hold down the feed button whilst powerng back on).

    • If the cash drawer still does not open then close down the POS software and restart the EPOS terminal.

If the cash drawer is connected directy to the EPOS terminal:

  • Check that the flat cash drawer cable with the RJ11 (telephone style) connector is securely connected to the EPOS terminal port labelled either drawer or DK.

  • If the cash drawer still does not open then close down the POS software and restart the EPOS terminal.
