How do dietary filters work in the Meals Tab?

Filtered results are recipes written that way from the start — Gluten Free means gluten free, not close enough. Plus substitutions for everything else.

The recipe library has a strong variety of recipes built for all kinds of dietary needs — and two layers of support to make sure something always works for you: filters that surface recipes built specifically for your diet, and substitution suggestions on nearly every recipe for everything else.

Filtering by dietary restriction

From the recipe search screen, tap Dietary Restrictions in the filter panel to choose from the following options:

  • Gluten Free

  • Dairy Free

  • Vegan

  • Vegetarian

  • Pescatarian

  • Peanut Free

  • Tree Nut Free

  • Sesame Free

  • Shellfish Free

  • Soy Free

  • Egg Free

  • Fish Free

Recipes that appear when you filter for a dietary restriction were designed that way from the start — so you can trust what you see. Gluten Free means the recipe was written to be gluten free, not just close enough.

Substitutions — for everything else

Here's the part we're especially proud of: even if a recipe isn't tagged for your dietary need, it very likely still works for you. Scroll to the bottom of a recipe's Ingredients tab and you'll usually find a Substitutions section — a blue card that lists specific swaps organized by dietary preference.

Tap a category to expand it and see exactly what to swap and how. Each recipe shows only the categories that apply to it, so the card looks different from recipe to recipe. Across the library, the substitutions covered are:

  • Gluten Free

  • Dairy Free

  • Vegetarian

  • Nuts (peanuts and tree nuts)

A recipe that's already dairy free won't show a Dairy Free row — there's nothing to swap.

So even if you're browsing a recipe that isn't labeled dairy free, you can scroll down and check the Substitutions card for a dairy free swap — no guesswork, no Googling, no starting over with a different recipe.

Using filters and substitutions together

The two work really well in combination. Filter for recipes already built for your diet when you want zero-effort meals. Use substitutions when something looks delicious but needs a small tweak. Between the two, you'll rarely hit a dead end.
