Understanding eBay Business Policies Before Cross-Listing

Learn what eBay Business Policies are, including payment, shipping, and return policies, and why setting them up correctly is important before cross-listing your inventory through AccelerList.

Before cross-listing your inventory from AccelerList to eBay, it’s important to have your eBay Business Policies properly set up. These policies tell eBay and your buyers how payments, shipping, and returns will be handled for your listings.

Having the correct policies in place can help your listings publish successfully and ensure buyers receive clear information about their orders.

What Are eBay Business Policies?

eBay Business Policies allow sellers to create reusable settings that can be applied to multiple listings instead of entering the same information every time.

There are three main types of business policies:

Payment Policy

Your payment policy determines the payment settings that apply to your listings.

Depending on your eBay account and marketplace, eBay manages many aspects of buyer payments through its payment system. Your listing still needs the appropriate payment settings or policy required by eBay.

Shipping Policy

Your shipping policy tells buyers how their orders will be shipped.

It can include information such as:

  • Shipping services

  • Shipping costs

  • Handling time

  • Domestic and international shipping options

  • Locations you ship to

Make sure your shipping settings are accurate before cross-listing. Incorrect shipping information can result in unexpected costs or problems fulfilling an order.

Return Policy

Your return policy explains whether you accept returns and the conditions that apply.

Depending on your settings, this may include:

  • Whether returns are accepted

  • The return period

  • Who pays for return shipping

  • Other applicable return conditions

Your return policy should accurately reflect how you plan to handle returns.

Why Are Business Policies Important for Cross-Listing?

When you cross-list an item through AccelerList, eBay needs the required listing information before the item can be published.

If a required business policy is missing, invalid, or no longer available on your eBay account, the listing may fail to publish or return an error from eBay.

Setting up your policies ahead of time helps make the cross-listing process smoother.

Set Up Your Policies Before Cross-Listing

Before you start cross-listing inventory, sign in to your eBay seller account and review your business policies. Make sure the policies you plan to use are active and contain the correct information.

Pay particular attention to your shipping and return settings, since these directly affect what buyers see and what you’ll need to do after an item sells.

What If You Change a Policy on eBay?

If you make changes to your policies directly on eBay, review your eBay settings in AccelerList before continuing to cross-list. This is especially important if you deleted, replaced, or renamed a policy that was previously being used.

Having Trouble Cross-Listing?

If an item isn't publishing to eBay, review the error message first. If the error mentions a missing or invalid policy, check your eBay Business Policies and make sure the required settings are properly configured.

If everything looks correct on eBay but you’re still unable to cross-list, contact AccelerList Support with the error message or a screenshot so the issue can be investigated.
