How to Connect and Use a Barcode Scanner in AccelerList

Learn how to connect, test, and use a USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner with AccelerList, along with basic troubleshooting tips for common scanning issue

Using a barcode scanner with AccelerList can make listing inventory much faster by allowing you to scan an item's barcode instead of manually entering its ISBN, UPC, or other product identifier.

Do I Need to Connect My Scanner Inside AccelerList?

No. In most cases, there is no separate barcode scanner connection or setup required within AccelerList.

Most USB and Bluetooth barcode scanners work like a keyboard. When you scan a barcode, the scanner enters the barcode number into the field where your cursor is currently placed.

Step 1: Connect Your Barcode Scanner to Your Computer

Depending on the type of scanner you have:

  • USB scanner: Plug the scanner into an available USB port on your computer.

  • Bluetooth scanner: Pair the scanner through your computer's Bluetooth settings according to the scanner manufacturer's instructions.

Once connected, your computer should recognize the scanner as an input device.

Step 2: Test Your Scanner

Before using the scanner in AccelerList, it's a good idea to make sure your computer is receiving the scans correctly.

  1. Open a text editor, such as Notepad on Windows or TextEdit on Mac.

  2. Click inside the document so the cursor is active.

  3. Scan a barcode.

  4. Check whether the complete barcode number appears on the screen.

If the barcode appears correctly, your scanner is ready to use with AccelerList.

Step 3: Use the Scanner in AccelerList

Log in to AccelerList and open the batch where you want to list your inventory.

Click inside the product search or scan field where you would normally type an ISBN, UPC, or other product identifier.

Scan the barcode on your item. The scanner should automatically enter the barcode into the field so AccelerList can search for the corresponding product.

Using a Scanner With Rapid Listing

You can also use your barcode scanner while working with Rapid Listing. There is no separate scanner connection required for Rapid Listing.

Make sure the correct scanning field is active, then scan your item's barcode. AccelerList will receive the barcode just as if you had typed it using your keyboard.

For a faster workflow, many barcode scanners can also be configured to automatically send an Enter/Return command after each scan.

What If My Barcode Scanner Isn't Working?

If your scanner isn't working properly in AccelerList, first test it in a text editor.

If the barcode doesn't appear in the text editor, the issue is most likely related to the scanner, its connection, or its configuration.

If the barcode appears correctly in the text editor but not in AccelerList, check the following:

  • Make sure your cursor is inside the correct product search or scanning field.

  • Verify that the scanner is entering the complete barcode.

  • Make sure the scanner isn't adding unexpected characters before or after the barcode.

  • Try clicking the scanning field again before scanning your next item.

  • Refresh AccelerList and test the scanner again.

Important

Your barcode scanner does not need to appear as a connected device within AccelerList. As long as your computer recognizes the scanner and it can correctly enter barcode numbers, you should be able to use it while listing your inventory in AccelerList.
