A common misconception with a Health Spending Account (HSA) is that you have to wait until something happens to you in order to use it, but that's not true at all! There are many ways you can treat yo' self with an HSA and make the most of your remaining balance. Here are some ideas to help you use those funds before the year ends:

1. Book a Massage!

Treat yourself (or a loved one - as long as they are a dependent!) to a massage. It’s a great way to relax and unwind, especially during the busy holiday season. Just ensure the massage is provided by an eligible practitioner for it to qualify under your HSA.

2. New Glasses? Why Not!

Wearing glasses doesn’t have to mean sticking to one style. You can use your HSA funds to buy as many pairs of prescription glasses as you need, allowing you to have options for every occasion.

3. Prepare for Winter with a Flu Shot

With winter on the way, staying healthy is key. Use your HSA to cover the cost of a flu shot administered by a medical professional, keeping you and your family protected from seasonal bugs.

4. Finally Get Those Braces!

Dreaming of straighter teeth? Consider using your HSA toward orthodontic treatments like Invisalign. Many providers offer payment plans, meaning you can use your HSA balance now and continue submitting payments in future years.

5. Prioritize Preventative Care

Many preventative services are eligible, such as physical exams, dental cleanings, and screenings. Investing in preventative care now can save you from larger medical expenses down the line.

6. Mental Health Support

HSA funds can often be used for mental health services like therapy or counseling, provided by licensed professionals. Remember - maintaining good mental health doesn't have to mean waiting until something goes wrong. If you're happy and you know it - stay that way with mental health support! This is a great way to take care of yourself or a family member and ensure a healthy start to the new year.

7. Look Into Alternative Treatments

If your HSA covers alternative therapies, you might consider treatments like chiropractic care, acupuncture, or physiotherapy. These services can help with everything from stress management to chronic pain relief.

Make the Most of Your HSA!

Using your HSA balance on eligible expenses is a smart way to maintain your health and wellness. Be sure to check your specific plan's details to confirm what’s eligible, and make every dollar count!
