When it comes to medical expenses, claiming for attendant care and care in certain types of facilities can be crucial for those who require additional support. Using your myHSA account, you can ensure that these necessary expenses are covered. Here's a guide on how to navigate this process effectively:

Eligible Medical Expenses

According to the CRA, eligible medical expenses may include costs paid for:

  • Attendant care

  • Care in facilities such as nursing homes, group homes, schools, and institutions

What Constitutes Attendant Care?

Attendant care involves services provided by an attendant who performs personal tasks that a patient is unable to do for themselves. These tasks may include:

  • Meal preparation

  • Maid and cleaning services

  • Transportation

  • Personal services such as banking and shopping

  • Providing companionship

It's important to note that if a person is employed as a single service provider (e.g., only providing maid and cleaning services or only transportation), this would not qualify as attendant care. The attendant must perform multiple personal tasks.
