Claiming expenses for dependents through your Health Spending Account (HSA) can help manage healthcare costs for your family. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to ensure that claims for dependents are processed smoothly.

Step 1: Verify Dependents on your Plan Details

Before submitting any claims, it’s crucial to verify that your dependents are eligible under your HSA plan. To do this:

  • Check Plan Details: Log in to your account and navigate to the dashboard.

  • Review Eligibility Criteria: Look at your Plan Details PDF for information regarding dependent eligibility, including which family members can be covered (e.g., spouse, children) and any specific requirements or limitations.

Step 2: Add Dependents to Your Account

Once you’ve confirmed that your dependents are eligible, you need to add them to your HSA account:

  • Go to Settings: Navigate to the "Settings" tab within your account.

  • Add Dependents: Find the section for managing dependents and add the necessary information for each dependent, including their full name, date of birth, and relationship to you

Step 3: Submit a Claim for a Dependent

When you’re ready to submit a claim for a dependent, follow these steps to ensure the claim is processed correctly:

  • Start a New Claim: by clicking "Make a Claim"

  • Select Dependent: During the claim submission, you will see a dropdown menu where you can select the name of the dependent for whom the claim is being made.

  • Complete the Claim: Enter the details of the expense, upload the required documentation, and ensure that all information is accurate and complete.

Tips for Successful Dependent Claims

  • Accurate Information: Ensure that all information entered for dependents is accurate and matches official documents.

  • Detailed Receipts: Submit detailed receipts that clearly indicate the services or items provided for the dependent.

  • Proof of Payment: Include proof of payment for the expenses incurred for the dependent.

  • Timely Submissions: Submit claims as soon as possible after the service or purchase to avoid any delays.
