Pregnancy is an exciting journey filled with so much preparation and anticipation for this new chapter. To ease the financial aspect of this journey, your myHSA account can cover various pregnancy-related expenses. Here’s a comprehensive guide on what you can expect your HSA to cover when you’re expecting.

Midwifery Services

Midwifery services are eligible for coverage under your HSA, provided the practitioner is a certified midwife. Unfortunately, services provided by doulas are not covered.

Imaging Services (3D Ultrasound)

3D ultrasounds can be quite fascinating and provide detailed images of your developing baby. These imaging services are eligible for coverage if they are prescribed by a doctor. Please note that any elective 3D ultrasounds that are not prescribed or requested by your doctor are not eligible.

Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)

NIPT is a valuable test that screens for certain genetic conditions. This testing is eligible for HSA coverage if prescribed by a doctor. Similar to 3D imaging, elective NIPT that is not medically prescribed is not covered.

Breast Pumps

Breast pumps can be a significant expense for new mothers. Your HSA will cover the cost of a breast pump as long as you have a prescription from a medical practitioner. Make sure to keep the prescription and submit it along with your claim.

Lactation Consulting

Lactation consulting can provide essential support and guidance for new mothers. These services are eligible for coverage if provided by a nurse, doctor, or midwife. Ensure the invoice clearly states the credentials of the practitioner providing the service.

Birthing Classes

Birthing classes can help prepare you for the delivery and early days of parenthood. These classes are eligible for coverage if conducted by a nurse, doctor, or midwife. The invoice must show the name of the birth-person as the patient to be eligible for reimbursement.

Private Room at Hospital

Staying in a private room during your hospital stay can provide extra comfort during childbirth and recovery. The cost of a private room is eligible under the 'Hospital Bills' category of your HSA.

Understanding what expenses are covered by your myHSA account can help you plan better and reduce stress during your pregnancy. Ensure you keep all necessary prescriptions, invoices, and documentation to support your claims. By knowing what to expect, you can make the most of your HSA benefits and focus on the joy of welcoming your new baby.
