Logiwa's Single SKU Cluster Pick template will help you create a job type that simplifies the traditional picking process by consolidating multiple single-item jobs. This article will explain the definition of the term, an example of how this type of job can be used, and some of the limitations that should be kept in mind.

For more information about creating a job type for picking, including one using this template, please see this article.

Defining Single SKU Cluster Picking

Single SKU Cluster Picking is a picking job type that consolidates multiple single-item jobs into a unified task. This method optimizes the picking process by allowing your staff to fulfill numerous orders using a single mobile cart. As a result, it significantly reduces the time and resources needed for order picking.

Example

For a situation that would be improved by this job type, consider the following orders:

OR2

Normally, if you attempted to create a job for these orders, three different identical item jobs would be generated.

However, with a Single SKU Cluster Pick job, you can complete the entire process with a single job in a mobile cart by selecting the same products in each tote. Then, the system will cluster OR1, OR2, OR3, O4 into one tote, OR5, OR6, OR7, OR8 into one tote, and OR9, OR10, OR11, OR12, OR13 into one tote, saving your staff time and effort.

Limitations for Mobile Carts

Certain limitations need to be established to ensure that this job type is suitable for your mobile carts. When using Single SKU Cluster Pick, mobile carts will need a tote/cell for each product. To prevent the carts from being overloaded, these limitations should be set when creating the job type, after selecting the Single SKU Cluster Pick option from the Create Job Type - Templates section.

Once you've made this selection, move to the Settings section.

Unlike with other job types, here you can specify two different batch sizes: N(umber) of Items and N(umber) of Different SKUs. By setting these two limitations within appropriate levels for your warehouse, you can establish the constraints for mobile carts used with these jobs. That way, you won't have carts that are overfilled.

The two batch sizes are defined as follows:

  • N of Different SKU: The maximum value determines the maximum number of totes that will fit in the mobile cart.

  • N of Item: The maximum value determines the maximum number of products that will fit in a tote.

As mentioned above, when using Single SKU Cluster Pick, mobile carts will need a tote/cell for each product. These two terms set the max values in terms of the number of different SKUs as well as how much of any amount of those SKUs the cart can handle.

Consider a job type with a maximum N of Different SKU of 12 and a maximum N of Item of 25. Jobs using this job type will be created so that up to 12 different items can be picked at the same time, and the sum of the same items can be up to 25.
