Enter your grazing area, the round length you’re starting on, the round length you want to finish on and the period you want to plan over. Trev then calculates the area to feed each day as you move towards your target round length.
You can use it to shorten a longer round through spring as pasture growth increases, or extend a shorter round through autumn to build feed ahead of winter.
The Rotation Planner is part of Trev’s Foresight tools and is currently in beta.
Before you start
Your Trev subscription needs to include Foresight.
You need Full Access or Authorised permission on the farm to create or edit a rotation plan.
Trev uses the effective area from your farm’s Key Details as the starting Farm Area, so check that figure is up to date.
Start a rotation plan
Click Foresight in the main menu.
Click Rotation Planner.
Click New Rotation Plan.
Enter a Plan Name if you want one. If you leave this blank, Trev creates a name using the farm and season.
Choose the Farm.
Set your rotation
Check the Farm Area.
Enter your Start round length in days.
Enter your End round length in days.
Choose the Start date.
Enter the Days to project, or click Use end date instead to choose a finish date.
As you enter the round lengths, Trev shows whether the rotation is increasing or decreasing.
Important: Trev uses your Farm Area and round length to calculate the area to feed each day, so check your Farm Area before generating your plan.
Exclude area that is out of the grazing round
Use Area Exclusions for land that should not form part of the grazing round for some or all of the plan, such as paddocks being cropped, regrassed or closed for silage.
Trev automatically shows relevant Land Use Areas that have been recorded as out of the grazing round and overlap your plan dates. You can choose to Ignore an exclusion you do not want included or Retain it. You can also add an exclusion manually by entering the exclusion start date, exclusion end date and hectares to remove.
The summary shows your total farm area, excluded area and remaining effective area. When you’re happy with the settings, click Generate Rotation Plan.
What happens next?
Trev opens the new plan and shows your planned round length, area to feed each day and a day-by-day table. You can switch between daily and weekly views.
The plan appears as Upcoming or Active, depending on its start date.
Tips
Record cropping, regrassing and silage areas as out of the grazing round in the Land module. Trev can then automatically pick them up as exclusions when they overlap a rotation plan.
If you’re working towards a specific date, such as the start of calving or a feed-budget target, choose Use end date instead rather than calculating the number of days yourself.
Troubleshooting
Why can’t I see Foresight?
Foresight needs to be included in your Trev subscription. If it isn’t available, get in touch with the Trev team.
Why does the Farm field say “No farms found”?
You need Full Access or Authorised permission on a farm to create a rotation plan. Ask your farm owner to check your access.
Can I delete a rotation plan?
Not currently. Once a plan is past its end date, it moves to the Historical tab.
