Official Tiering How To

Updated this week

Tiering enables assignors to have qualification based pay and game assignment restrictions. With this feature enabled officials can be assigned tiers based on your specifications and requirements. Within this guide we will walk through enabling and configuring tiering in your group.

Getting Started

To enable tiering first navigate to your groups settings by clicking the profile icon in the upper right side of your assignor dashboard.

Once you are brought to your groups setting find and click on "Tiering" near the top of the page (shown).

In the tiering page simply click the slider to enable tiering for your group.

Once enabled you can begin setting up your tiers. These tiers can be named however you wish. However, Notch recommends a description for each tier that is clear for both yourself and the officials. An example of this could look like; 'T1 – Developing', 'T2 – Established', 'T3 – Expert', etc.

Simply type the tier descriptions in the text field. Once your ready to add a new tier click the "+ Add Another" text to bring up a new text field. If you need to remove a tier click the trashcan icon next to the tier.

Using our example our tiering configurations would look like this -

Once your finished adding your tiers click the "Save" button and you will see a success message in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Adding your officials to a tier

Now that we have tiering enabled we can start adding officials to our freshly created tiers. Notch currently offers 2 ways to add users to a tier, individually or in batches.

Individually adding officials to tiers

In your "Officials" page of your dashboard locate the individual you want to add to a tier. Once located click the kebab menu button (3 dots) on the right side of the officials entry (shown).

This will bring up a dropdown menu with a few different options. For now we are interested in the "Add to Tier" option. Click on this option to bring up the tier assignment window.

From this popup you can select the sport(s) where you you want to assign tiers to. Once your ready click the "Continue" button.

In this screen you can set the tier(s) for the sports you selected. Simply click the drop downs for each sport and select from the tiers you configured earlier. Once finished click the "Continue" button to save your work.

The officials record will now show their tier assignment(s).

Batch tiering assignments

To save time you can group your tier assignments by selecting the officials in the "Officials" page of your assignor dashboard like shown.

Once you have selected your officials click the "Actions" dropdown near the right side of the page.

This will bring up a few options. Select the "Add to Tier" Click option to bring up the tier assignment window.

From this popup you can select the sport(s) that you want to assign tiers to. Once your ready click the "Continue" button.

Configuring tier pay scales

If you don't yet have a competition configured first set one up using to the directions here. Once you are finished setting up the competition return to this article.

Above we have a standard pay scale for our baseball competition. This will be the default pay scale for all officials baseball officials who don't hold a higher tier. To add a new tier simply click on the "+ Add Tier" button.

You will be greeted by a pop up asking if you wish to copy the current pay scale values into the new tier. If you select "No, start from scratch!" option no values will be carried over into the new pay scale tier. Otherwise, all current values will be copied to give you a starting point if "Yes" is selected.

For our example we selected "Yes" on the previous prompt. As you can see the previous values were carried over into this new pay scale for our "T1 - Developing" tier.

This pay scale will be used for our baseball officials who are at tier 1 or above.

Once we have made our changes and saved we can now add more pay scales for our higher tiers if needed.

Things to remember:

If a tier is not configured for a game during its creation Notch will default to the lowest tier (Tier 0) when determining fees. If a tier is set for a game Notch will determine the official fees using the correlating pay scale.

Should a higher tier official be assigned to a lower tiered game Notch will calculate the officials pay based on the correlating pay scale for that official instead of the games configured tier. This fee will update in real time as the assignment is made.
