How to set and manage my availability?
Updated over 8 months ago

This guide will walk you through some of the basics of maintaining your availability as an official using the platform, and how it helps your assignors.

How can I set my availability?

1. Go to the 'My Planner' section accessible via the calendar icon in your navigation in the upper right of your screen

2. Navigate to "Availability" in the sub navigation

3. Click "Edit" which will show your assignor which days you are available by default

4. Add any "Date Overrides" - think of these as "blackout dates" - when you are not available either on a set date or a date range

Each of the above steps are pictured below -

What is visible to my assignor?

When your assignor is assigning officials to games, the default list of officials shows only those officials who are available on the date/time of each game. Therefore, we encourage all officials to set their availability to keep the assigning experience as efficient as possible for you and your assignor.

In addition, the assignor will see your distance to the game location and the details of any potentially conflicting assignments in the Notch system.

The assignor may also choose to ignore availability metrics in order to see the full list of officials to possibly assign.

What if I don't set my availability?

We encourage all officials to be diligent about setting availability. This maximizes your opportunity to receive game assignments. Most assignors use availability when assigning games. If you don’t set your availability, you may still request game roles, however, you may be limited to what game assignments you receive.

What about being able to set my availability on a calendar?

Many legacy tools have the ability to set availability on a calendar. In extensive user research conducted, we’ve learned that a vast majority of officials do not regularly update their calendars even when presented an option for doing so and we’ve chosen what we believe to be a more innovative approach.
