Handy modes

A List of all current Handy Modes

Depending on the Firmware of your device, you will have multiple modes for usage and troubleshooting, below we list the most common states based on your Firmware


Firmware 3

The Handy has three basic operating modes for use with Firmware 3, they are as follows:

Offline mode

Green LED

The default mode the Handy enters when plugged in to power. In this mode, the Handy does not broadcast any signal and it is controllable using the buttons on its body.

How to enter mode

This is the default mode of the Handy when turned on.

Bluetooth mode

Dark Blue LED

The mode used for connecting Handy to the Handyverse app (available for iOS and Android). You cannot connect to the Internet while in Bluetooth Mode.

How to enter mode

While the device is in Offline Mode, press and hold the Action button.

Online mode

Pink LED

The mode used for connecting to HandyFeeling and other online services.

How to enter mode

While the device is in Offline Mode, press, without holding, the Action button.

Note: You must connect your Handy to Wi-Fi for this mode to work.

Firmware 4

By default, by clicking the Wi-Fi button on the Handy, the device will cycle through Bluetooth Mode and Bluetooth + Online Mode.

To configure which mode you start whenever you turn on the device, you need to configure it in the Handy Onboarding App.

Please keep in mind that Firmware 4 is currently in Beta, as such issues are expected. If you face issues, please email contact@thehandy.com with as much information as you can gather regarding the issue.

In Firmware 4 we have mostly the same modes, but they are coded differently in versions 4.013 and Older.

Firmware 4.0.13 and Older.

Offline Mode

White LED

This signals the device is on Offline mode, it can't be found online or via Bluetooth.

Bluetooth Mode

Green LED

This signals the device is on Bluetooth mode, it can be found and configured via the Handy Onboarding app.

Legacy Bluetooth: In Firmware 4, the Bluetooth changed completely. As such, some services that relied on it may be unstable or unavailable. To access those services, you may need to user Legacy Bluetooth mode.
For this, hold the UP button, while holding it, long press the Action button. The LED will then turn Blue to showcase this.

Online Mode

Pink LED

This signals the device is on Online mode, it can be found by apps and services that use the connection key.

Bluetooth and Online Mode

Blue and Pink LED

This signals the device is on a special mode that has Bluetooth and Online enabled at the same time. This allows you to connect to the Handy Onboarding App and to online services.

Please keep in mind that this mode adds a delay to the synchronization, around 200ms, this makes it so you may need adjust the settings to compensate for the delay.

Firmware 4.0.14 and Newer

In this update we standardized the status to be similar to Firmware 3, that way the transition between Firmware versions are less confusion.

All the modes can be alternated by using the action button, showcased below.

Offline Mode

(Green)

The Handy is in Offline mode and can be controlled via the buttons on the device itself.

Online Mode

(Steady Pink)

The Handy successfully connected to the Internet and the servers and is ready to be found via connection key in new.handyfeeling.com

Bluetooth Mode

(Steady Blue)

The Handy has connected via Bluetooth successfully and is able to be configured via Handy Onboarding App.

Bluetooth and Online Mode

(Steady Pink and Blue)

The Handy is connected to the Internet and is connected to the Handy Onboarding App via Bluetooth.

Legacy Bluetooth Mode

(Steady Cyan)

This shows the Handy is in Legacy Bluetooth mode and is connected t applications that uses this Bluetooth protocols to connect.
