Are Ompractice classes accessible to students who use a wheelchair?

Yes, Ompractice classes are designed to be inclusive and accessible to all students, including those who use wheelchairs or prefer to participate while seated.

At Ompractice generally, we have students of all abilities, including students in wheelchairs, those with general mobility challenges, and students who wear prosthetics.

Generally speaking, we don't make assumptions on capability or experience! We're here to support you where you are, and are happy to help you find classes that work for you and support your goals.

Classes that are seated:

  • We have a range of movement classes that are seated, including our chair yoga, yoga for tight shoulders and neck. You can filter classes by adaptive or seated on the class schedule.

  • We also have classes that have no movement at all, such as our meditation, iRest, or our sound bowl classes.

Classes that can be adapted to be taken seated:

  • Our tai chi and qigong classes typically can be adapted to be taken seated or standing in the same class, and our teachers are adept at teaching to a class with mixed-abilities.

  • Is there a class on the schedule that you'd like to take, but aren't sure? Just ask, and we'll do our best to accommodate! (That includes power classes, intermediate, and vigorous!)

Classes that are on the floor:

  • We also have a range of classes that are primarily on the floor, and don't require getting up and down. These can generally be adaptive, although you may want to chat with us about your mobility needs and we can make suggestions/modifications in advance to support you better.

Modifications and adaptations:

  • You may wish to take a class directly in your chair, or transfer to a seat, or in some cases the floor.

  • Extra props and stability: we can help you with recommendations for extra props or in the moment stability and support.

Joining with a caregiver:

  • You are welcome to join class with a caregiver, either as a support, or to participate alongside you. If they are participating along side you, we do ask that they register for a free account on Ompractice to agree to the terms!

Want a little more support?

Feel free to reach out to us in advance, and one of our team would be happy to talk to you about making sure you are supported, comfortable and feel safe!

Commitment to Accessibility: We're always looking to make our classes even more accessible to all – this is one of the original reasons we started Ompractice!
